I dont know if this is a repost so fuck it, dont care what the repost police think Middle Finger

it will only take you 2 minutes of your time to sign the current petition here: https://petitions.number10.gov.uk/bikeparkingfees/

also nicked from LondonBikers.com:
The end of the experimental phase of the Westminster motorcycle parking tax will be on February 18th when the council will make a decision as to whether this tax becomes a permanent arrangement or not. If it becomes permanent, other councils will follow suit and everyone of us will end up paying a parking tax wherever we live, work and park our bike in the UK.
If you do not agree with this unfair and unjustified motorcycle parking tax AND/OR if you are concerned about other councils following suit if Westminster Council gets away with it, PLEASE JOIN THE CAMPAIGN RIGHT NOW. IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO PUT PRESSURE ON WESTMINSTER COUNCIL TO SCRAP THIS TAX AND PREVENT IT FROM SPREADING ALL OVER THE UK. Even if you don't live or work in Wesminster, if Westminster Council gets away with this bike parking tax, it will come near you before you even realise.

Please look at the campaign website now www.notobikeparkingfees.com, send an objection e-mail to Westminster Council via the campaign website (there are templates that you can use to get you started), join the next demo on next Sunday 1st February 2009 which will be a ride from the Ace cafe to the London Motorcycle Show at the Excel centre, passing by Westminster City Hall (details available on www.notobikeparkingfees.com).

Please note that Westminster Council is making a revenue of over £2.2 million per annum versus a one off cost of £303k. The council has already recovered seven times this one-off cost and the surplus is purely income in their pocket! This information is from a secure source, please look at www.notobikeparkingfees.com for further details.

Thank you all for your support and PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD. Remember, if Westminster Council gets away with this tax, it will spread and we'll all end up paying a parking tax wherever we live, work and park our bike in the UK.

Is anyone going to the February 1st rideout from the Ace cafe?

I signed it.

Thing I don't get is, what are people going to do if Westminster Council do decide to enforce it...stop going to work? Stop parking in Westminster? It will be their loss rather than Westminster Council's...so really there's nothing that could be done. It's not something that would be nationally bad politically for the government...so in essence it doesn't matter!

Just like Manchester, eh?

But to be serious for a moment,

1. That No. 10 petition site is just a shiny shiny for retards.

2. I don't really give a fuck what Westminster council do.

3. Good luck. Thumbs Up

How much do you have to pay?

Surely if it's an amount relative to the size/CO2 emission output of a bike compared to a car, then you can't really complain?

Haven't you learnt by now they just want to tax the hell out of anything with an engine. And they know we'll pay it, becuase we're lazy.

You'll never be immune unless you get a pushbike.

I signed the petition, for what it was worth. However, I'd stake a shiny £1 that the response will be something along the lines of
'Not a matter that this office can deal with, have you tried writing to the council/Boris/TFL. We've copied this letter to the FCO because their inbox is dealt with by one bloke[1] and he hasn't seen daylight in 3 years.'

More encouragingly, though, was the link to object directly to westminster council. Apart from the 3 out-of-office replies, I got the following:

Quote:
Thank you for copying me your email about motorbike parking charges.

I have always been opposed to the introduction of parking charges for motorbikes. When invited, I went to the committee of the 'No to the Bike Parking Tax' campaign to hear their views and give them advice on how to oppose the council's policy. All members of the opposition Labour group are working to get the charges overturned and we are talking to individual Conservative councillors to convince them.

I have no doubt there will be future opportunities to hold the council to account for this policy and eventually get it reversed. Next Monday (26 January) the Leader of the Council is due to answer questions on motorbike parking charges at the Westminster Scrutiny Commission, and on Wednesday evening (28 January) there will be a full council meeting at which Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg has secured a short debate.

On behalf of the Labour group of Westminster city councillors

[1] Really! I think his name is Andy and they've currently got a correspondence backlog of around 3 years...
