Well here we go thisis my build for winter 08/09
can be followed here https://forum.overclock3d.net/showthread.php?t=25680

build has been named hellfire down to the whole theme red/black

WelshD1K is my gamer tag for every game i play so if any one see's me say hi (cod4, Cs:s, WoW, crysis wars, BF2142 on and on)

well up untill september i was running:

intell q6600 @ 3.6 OC
asps p5k on air
4gb reaper x
nvida 8800gtx (Water cooled )
and a shitty 80gb Wd hdd

pic:
https://i25.tinypic.com/bf3uap.jpg
https://i28.tinypic.com/1zfr3py.jpg

So i decided bla bla bla i want a new case , got talking with a mate, and Hell fire started ,

as you can probs see from my old rig i like silence (water cooling was passivly cooled and sat @ 32 degrees) and teh massive cooler that kept my quad under 40 with fan set to minimum

so the idea went on and on. twin loop , everything water cooled and over clock the nuts out of everything.

sold the gtx , bought a 4870 single, sold that got a 4870x2 dirt cheap Very Happy so the game was on

so now i had a 4870x2 i needed silly fsb to get full use of it so binned the q6600 (couldnt get it stable @ 3.9) and got myself a nice e6850 running 4ghz (8x500fsb) to help keep that juicy gpu going Wink

bought a lian li a70 and sent ot off ,

well pictures of some intereseting stuff

sexy asus p5k prem dressed up for water https://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb298/tinytomlogan/Hell%20Fire/NC100080.jpg

custom front rad grill with my gamer tag in it

ph and a taster of the custom wet spray sherry red candi to black faded with red flake in it Very Happy

thats all for now folks

Whip that 8800gtx out straight away, does it need to be water cooled or do you just like the noise levels?

Very nicely made case, not really my style but a top job done building and cutting it has been done Thumbs Up

Treat yourself to a Wolfdale to replace the old conroe, much better overclocking potential, especially with the decent watercolling you have.

He says he has sold it and replaced it with a 4870x2.

Yup, well i like it, unlike the older Alienware stuff that was meant to have a tool less case, this one actually is. Very neat, NEARLY as good as the old Apple G4 cases where the whole system would fold out flat when you lifted the clip at the top of the case.

Is it just alienware case or the whole thing, I thought they were massively overpriced and you could build a btter rig at half the price?

It's the whole thing but i didn't pay a penny for it. Was a gift from an overpaid family member who just went an brought a new i7 based one.

I've been telling him they're overpriced for ages, i laughed my arse off when i opened it up and saw the asus motherboard and all the other off the shelf parts. The only thing custom about it is the case.

Saying that, it came with a few nice touches like cardkeepers, although i know they aren't expensive, a very decent power supply and enough hard disk bays for NASA. Oh yeah and there's the neons. Very Happy haha

For starters, i was joking, i'm aware it's not subtle which is why i put Wink Wink at the end of my post. Mine is water cooled though so i don't really have an issue with ventilation.

I'd agree that they're overpriced but would have to disagree with the tat part.

Plus, paying for bright red candy paint when the money could be spent on better hardware is hardly the way to go is it? Razz

what hardware would you change? there is no point changing anything other than the cpu to somethign like a e8600. but i wouldnt see the benifits.

the gpu is teh fastest single card on the market
Ram runs 1:1 on oc with my processor
motherboard is soo reliable and versatile
powersuply is a monsterous one
hardisks are as fast as they get with silence ( and im not puting no ssd in it with their pants write times)

and the spray job was cheaper than a new motherboard or a new cpu

+ ill be upgrading internals in 8 months to i7 so pointless spending big ££ on mimimal upgrade..

one Q

the alianware watercooling . do you actualy find it works well atall?

isnt it just a 120mm rad for everything? so tems of 60+ degrees?

I have a q6600, I had it running at 3.4 under water. It didn't like 3.6 cos for my RAM (I think) I have 8800gts (640mb) which I have a water cooler for but I can't be bothered to strip the whole thing apart, one day I will update the mobo and RAM and put the new cooling in. The other problem is I can't fit 2 rads in my case. When it was running at 3.4 my CPU was 16 deg idle and 26deg full load.

I would cut my nipples off with scissors for an alienware case.

Awsome!

Neither your bright red case or the alienware case is subtle.

While I still think the Wolfdale is a much better CPU than the conroe I think your right to hold out for i7 to fall to reasonable prices. I bought my E8500 mid last year when there was no option of i7. The price I paid last year was actually a little less than what they cost now?!

Its debateable as to wether the 4870x2 is the fastest single card, the GTX295 would be my choice over that however its not worth upgrading yours for a 295 as its not that much better and is hardly an upgrade more of a sidestep. The GTX285 is the fastest single GPU. I would not buy and ATI card for the shonky drivers (which are pretty much sorted now) and much as I used to love ATI cards I now prefer Nvidia.

They are owned By Dell anyway, so you can get the same rig without the bells and whistles at a fraction of the cost . . . . well nearly. Wink

It has all gone up mate, think the devaluation of the pound has put a lot of computer components up in price.

The Q6600 was at £130 at one point, it is now at £165 on ebuyer. I know it is almost coming to the end of production, but it is insane.

If I was to build a completely fresh system now, it would be an i7. Though I have heard that if put in at the right price, the new offering from AMD; the Phenom II, might be worth a shout, very overclockable.

I know it isn't. Which is why i put a Wink Wink at the end of my post. FFS.

ns125rk90, I don't know how well the water cooling works, all i know is that it's rock solid stable and is VERY quiet.

Out of interest, how much did the paint cost for that spray job, not the spray painting but the paint? Thumbs Up

It would have looked even better lime green. Very Happy I was going to get my old bike spray painted lime green but my mates talked me out of it. Laughing
