Hi,

I am currently using standard headstock bearings in an early Fireblade, they will need doing this year and i was wondering if there is any benefit from converting to taper rolling ones?

When i adjust the original ones they never feel tight even when new.

Thanks,Paul.

Yes, taper roller bearing are far superior to rollerball bearings. The contact-patch is larger so they don't make dents in the races so easily from being in the same position most of the time.

But have the disadvantage that as they have a bigger contact area they 'can' make the steering feel a little heavier. As the bearings aren't themselves tapered they also tend to slide as well as roll but this is minimal over the swept use area.

I still fit them and recommend them over ball bearings.
