Just realised that my bike which has been untaxed for a while now (its off road for repairs) is not SORNed.
My address for the bike is back at my old rented house so I have the feeling that maybe letters are piling up there. It's only my first year of having a bike, so I'm not sure how all the letters etc work however.

I was going to change the address, but then it occurred to me that the bleeding leeches at the relevant tax office will probably hit me straight away with some fine.

Is it pretty much set in stone that the above will land me with a fine? Why the feck should I have to tell the government when I do not wish to use my bike?

Because that's the rules of the road/land I'm afraid.

Personally, I wouldn't bother telling them. Smile

No real reason at all. Just an utterly pointless law to waste your time and everyone elses.

All the best

I'm in Oz and the bike is in Essex, off the road (well in my mums garage) and SORN until my return or it gets shipped out here.

I reread the paperwork and a SORN only applies for one year. I rang to confirm this and was told that someone would have to go to the bother of informing the DVLA each and every year that the bike is to remain SORN?

What is the point of that?

I explained the situation of me not even being in the country and was met with shrugged shoulders.

If you don't play ball...£80 thank you very much for not redeclaring it?

Not necessarily..

I was in Afghanistan when my old bikes SORN notice expired, i got the letter through and sent a letter back saying that i was not in the country and could not declare it SORN.

They sent a letter back and closed the case!

Change the registered address to your mothers and she can send the SORN back.

It's not that much of a hassle. The reminder came through your post.
when the tax ran out on my car one time. I hadn't declared it sorn for 3months. I called them up and declared it sorn. they said they would charge me tax for those 3months. But it never came in the post.

It only takes 3minutes to ring them up and tell them.

The point is that you shouldn't expect to have to ask someone else to remember to do it. A declaration of it not being on the road should only end when sold, crushed or returned to the road.

The bike is registered at her address.

Stick it on a RoRo ferry, I can ship to Aus via Japan for about £750, takes about 7 weeks though. I'm intending to use RoRos to get around instead of shipping containers later this year.

Hi

Suspect it might not be that easy to get the monkey bike to comply with Australian Design Rules and get it on the road.

No need for even that. Not buying a tax disk is a declaration that it is off road. Hence no need for any kind of SORN declaration.

All the best

i was led to beleive that RoRo (roll on roll off) ferries were not capable of being used in deep water transport and you would need a dedicated cargo ship to transport anything that far.

They probably think that making us actually declare a S.O.R.N (rather than assuming it's not being used because you haven't bought a tax disc) will make us less likely to be naughty and use it on the road.

You know in a patronising way like: right you've NOTIFIED us now that it's OFF the road. YOU did it. You signed it. It's STATUTORY so that sounds really OFFICIAL. Remember not to ride it on the road because you NOTIFIED us. You've got the BIG blue scary form now and everything.

Bunch of T.W.A.T.S
