Just curious as to how people on here pay for their insurance.

Montly (A years paid monthly though installments)

or

Anually

Just wondering what I should do, I can get the money to insure a bike for a year, but thinking it might be easier to do it monthly.

Thanks

year policy paid monthly. But if I ever have enough money at the time to pay it for the entire year I will do. It's best that way because..
- cheaper
- gets it out the way
- no risk of policy getting cancelled due to non-payment
- if you need to cancel they just refund you the remaining days/months of the policy.

If you cancel a monthly paid policy presumably you don't have to pay anything and they stop the payments coming out of your account?

Depends on the bike/cost/interest rate. GSXR I paid monthly as it was over £500. Versys was renewed a couple of weeks ago and was about £125 so just paid that in one go.

Annually and so save about 20% of the cost of the insurance. I'm with Ebike so breakdown would be within that aswell.

On top of this if I ever decided to change the bike mid policy I don't get charge admin fees due to it all being online. So buy a bike, swap the insurance then use Ebike to get a monthly policy on my old bike until it's sold. I do like Ebike. Wink Thumbs Up

At the moment it is monthly but that was because eBikes pay as you go was the best policy last year.

I'll probably go back to paying a lump sum in a couple of months, which reminds me get Bounce on an age related plate! Smile

No. in fact it's usually quite the opposite.

If you pay by DD on the monthly, what tends to happen is you get lumbered with 33% APR interest which means that your policy is ~ 13% more expensive than it should be.

Add to this that some insurers still have short period cancellation charges that go:
30% for the first month
10% each month thereafter

If you cancelled after 6 months you'd have "used" 80% of your premium and only paid for roughly half of it by the time you take into account interest etc. This shortfall will need to be collected - and believe me, finance companies can be VERY vindictive about getting their cash.

Er you better go and read the T/C........

When you pay a bike policy monthly, you take out a credit agreement to pay the policy. That means the policy is all paid and you then owe the credit company that amount plus their interest charges.
When you consider the rate of interest charged, you can actually end up still paying for a policy even though you have cancelled it...

Now as we all know.....
Quote:
if you need to cancel they just refund you the remaining days/months of the policy.

That statement is not true.....
Bike polices have some very nasty clauses when you cancel.
Quote:

Months you have used the policy and the % of premium you must pay
1 month 40%
2 months 40%
3 months 50%
4 months 60%
5 months 70%
6 months 80%
7 months 85%
8 months 90%
9 months 100%
We will not give you a refund if we provide over 8 months cover.

Now when you consider that some charge £30 fee's to cancel, to some of us its not worth cancelling a policy as it will cost more...... Twisted Evil

Annually for me, save up the cash throughout the year and then just pay it off in one whack as it's cheaper.

For £120? Annually.

If, when I get a big bike, it costs significantly more then I'll probably have to go monthly
