CAGERS seem unable to dip their lights

i work split shifts first shift starts at 7:00am and i live in the country and near enough every single car i pass does not bother to dip there lights.


On the rare occasions i use my car i always make sure my lights are dipped when passing other vechiles.

Its extremely dangerous and cant be the only one on here who has the same problems.

I use to flash my lights back to make them aware - that doesnt really work so i have taken to beeping my horn.

There must be a solution to this problem?

Really annoys me too, another pet hate is when people flash you for thinking you have high beam on when you dont

yea right LOL , i might be better off in America.

That new vauxhall has good automatic senses to sense headlights all cars should be fitted with that. Because its so dangerous i will be going about 50mph car will come around the corner full beam i cant see a thing and i have to back right off!!

Im not a good rider when it comes to country roads in the dark.
9/10 times I have to use full beam.
If a car has its full beam on and its blinding me i try to tilt my head to the left - it seems to get rid of some glare whilst still having a good veiw of the road.

Try not to target fixate on the cars headlights - which is normally what you'll do.

Its a pain in the arse and I get it a lot riding back from London, infact the cold and rain aren't the worst part of winter for me, the dark is.

If you can see a white line on the road in the centre - even if its only a few meters ahead and you have a rough idea of where the road is going follow that and you'll keep your line much better than you would otherwise. If you do this for a while you'll build up confidence.

You'll need to use that line whilst still having an idea of whats ahread of you though as its obviously dangerous to not be looking fully ahead as well. Having full detail is a luxury, sometimes you've got to make do with pieces and put it together as you go, it is possible but takes some time to crack.

Even though my lights are crap, I just flash them between full and dipped beam which usually gets there attention and if they havent noticed by the time I am by the side of them, I toot my horn so hopefully they pay more attention to the next vehicle they pass.

FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE (or light)

Halfrauds sell some small fog lights (H1 bulbs) which are incredibly bright.

Fix them to a bracket and then to the forks of your bike.
Use a push button or rig them to your main beam.
Angle them slightly high (eye level) then stick a set of Philips xtremes or osram nightbreakers in them.
If anyone asks there for show use.

Then be ready for some Retina etching of your own


Or just get a set of HID main beams (around £60 from ebay go for the 8000s) and burn out there eyes. Just got some for my car main beams and they are awesome. just got through an MOT with them on as they are road legal



Or be nice and just flash them see if they switch them off.

As above I have Hella Driving lights fitted(much better than Halfrauds weak offering). They get a warning flash to get them to dip if that doesn't work they get main beam even if they dip after or not.

I agree with just beaming them back.

I beam them and beep the horn.

However, I do wish I had one on the back. It's so annoying having a car behind you with their full beam in the mirrors. If they're close, sometimes you can reflect it into their eyes but not all the time.

Are there a lot of hills on the road?

I get flashed quite a lot in my car as the lights have quite a high level but are auto levelling and I have been assured they are the correct height. When I'm coming over the crest of a hill the oncoming traffic get a full face of xenon for a few seconds. I don't like it at all but there's not much I can do. I thought this may be the case on your roads?

I dont really have a problem with this because i have my extra lights on the low beam meaning any car wit full beam on gets a warning shot of 145watts then a full shot of 200 when im about 10foot away if they dont get the idea, I sent loads of idiots swerving with this method and everyone who lives in my village now turns down they're lights when they see a bike coming, just in case it's me.

Yep this is a really good point, the new bulbs are far too bright and it is really dangerous on a bike being blinded, some of yous are saying you get flashed a lot when your in your cars, if thats the case maybe you should check your lights, best thing is just to flash them and hope they dip theirs and if they dont then turn round' follow them and kick f**k out of them, only if its an old granny.
I have raised my headlamp so I can see further on unlit roads so I can blind them back if they dont turn them off and if I cant see then I do leave my full beam on, dip is shit on an unlit road especially if your going some, good luck

I think sometimes it's hard to tell a bike is flashing you since the vibration from the road on our lights looks like we're doing it all the time. Especially on back roads.
So maybe they don't even notice you are doing it
