Dear All;

does anyone know (or can you hazard a good guess) as to the load one of these racks can take?

It is a Givi E107 to fit on an V46 Box. I want to strap a tent to it, otherwise I am struggling for space. So will it take a 5kg tent or will if give up the ghost at some unhelpful time?

If you look at the Givi site it does not give any weight specs for the rack.
But for the box it says
WEIGHT 4,3 Kg
CASE + CONTENTS 5,7 Kg

So that would seem say a max weight of 1.4 Kg in the box,
Adding 5Kg on top is going to affect the handling of the bike by quite a lot....

Another thing.
Reviews say not to trust the template supplied for drilling the lid...

My V46 box has a back rest fitted to it. This is attached via a couple of screws right through the carcass of the box.

Assuming the rack is fitted in a similar manner I wouldn't have any problems attaching a 5kg vertical load - I've sat on my box with no ill effects! You will need to be careful to make sure there aren't loose flaps of tent catching the wind though, as I imagine the mounting points/screws could be fairly susceptible to a large horizontal load.

I don't know which mounting solution you have for the box-bike, but I'd be extremely suprised if this was a limiting factor.

Cheers,
Ben
