Anyone ever seen this roundabout? I came across this a while ago in Swindon. My first thought was WTF?! I think the general idea is to close your eyes and hope for the best! It looks even more daunting in real life!

Yeah, I've been round it. Looks more confusing than it is Wink I was following sat nav at the time - you want confusing, how about being told "left, right, right, left" in a two second timeframe! Laughing

been posted so many times.

One big on in the middle, with mini ones around the outside.

Nowhere near as complicated as it seems.

Yeah my parents live near there, been round it a few times its fun.

Best bit is because its basically a big roundabout you can go round it any way you want, clockwise, anti clockwise straight through whatever.

Its not as bad as it looks you just take them as they come.

More like only Southerners have the mental capacity to negotiate roundabouts like that.b

I reckon the designer(s) of the roundabout were just really bored one day and one of them said "hang on a minute, i've got a brilliant idea!"

Hmm, Not quiet sure why they couldnt of just done something like this...

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/binge/stupidroundaboutthing.jpg

And for the main drag. (The main road which crosses that roundabout) they could of either bridged across, Or just put a road through the middle of the roundabout, With traffic lights.

And before anybody makes any comments about costs. I bet a shiny pound, a fuck load more money has been spent on insurance claims on that thing! Look at all the give ways!

Apparently it is remarkably safe with very few incidents as everybody has to concentrate so much more. Including Women and Asians, cause everyone knows they are the worst.

/me runs.

I can't find where I read it but the accident rate has definitely dropped. This is due to people being forced to pay attention. Make it simple people don't focus, force chaos and people have to look at where they are going.

In fact, I found it.

Doesn't look half as hectic as the first one mind you.

The one in Swindon pre-dates Hemel's magic roundabout, and so is the first and original one. The one in Hemel is known (for historic reasons) as The Plough roundabout.
Works just fine, the problem is the dickheads who a)can't stay in their lane, b)can't plan ahead to know which lane to be in for the next roundabout, and c)people who block the roundabout when their exit is blocked by traffic.
Oh yeah, and wimmin and ayshuns too.
Thumbs Up

Its fairly easy to use. like surprisingly easy. Until you start getting queues coming off of roundabouts which block back onto other roundabouts. But it is very simple.
