Looks like fun.
Well presented (to the most part, a few holes I could pick, but I break web-sites for a living Razz) site and donations going straight to your charity of choice. Thumbs Up
Standard spammy-opening on the forum, but I'll forgive you in this case Wink.

Why the XTZ660Z out of interest? I still can't figure out why to choose one of these over say a G650X-Challenge - I've got a KTM690 which I hope to put to similar uses in the future at some point, though looking less likely I'll have loads of time available to do such things in the next few years Sad.

Borderline spam , in that a few others have posted similar things before and said, why should I help pay for your biking holiday?

The right side of borderline to me, though because the donations are going straight to the charity and the sponsorship is actually listed as such; as an advertising opportunity.

Much, much better than the proto-pedboi that had made zero effort and was trying to achieve the same (well, a much lesser) claimed goal.

I see what you are saying but what if all bikers raised money for a cause.I made it clear whether to sponsor or to donate-I think?

Agreed, it's erring on the wrong side of borderline for me. Although to give the guy credit he has at least separated the sponsorship and donation side, which a lot of charity-holiday type things don't.

I sponsored the guy riding to Mongolia because he paid his own way and every penny went to charity, he even sold his bike at the end and gave the proceeds to them iirc.

Hope you manage it, and it sounds like an epic trip, but if someone was offering me 15k expenses to do it I'd be halfway to Dover already, so paying/donating towards this isn't for me Smile

heh maybe I should donate to Korn's bandwith expenses when I do my write up of crossing the Eurasian continent (twice), if I can make a week in France go above the post size limit, it will probably be a rival to war and peace......and then some since something interesting tends to happen to me every day , while published authors like lois pryce / Ted Simon tend to skip days and weeks from their adventures.

Meh might just get a big vinyl Bikechatforums.com sticker instead.... if Swaffs wakes up.

Can you try to get some good, scenic pics in this time tho Itchy. I'm not overly arsed about looking at campsites!

I know I could have taken plenty , its just that I kept hitting excellent roads and stopping would have spoilt it for me, I was like whoa, this is good really good, I'll stop in a minute or two, 50 miles later, whoa this is even better I'll stop shortly.

The big one , will be slower and taken on trailie bikes anyway thus giving more ample opportunities to take photos, that said I think I will require a better camera and maybe a bike mounted one, as said there are times when you just don't want to stop.

When I was doing my final leg to JOG I was in a moderate rush, so couldn't really stop for photos.

I had actually made a front facing mount for a camera behind the windscreen, unfortunately the cheap quick-release (so I could easily remove from the bike at petrol stations etc, or just to take pics when stopped) I used vibrated far too much.

So from that, I've wondered about making a wrist-mounted camera, or perhaps on on a quick release which you can easily remove while riding - say with an easy 'trigger grip' style thing which had the camera controls on to. This way you could just grab the camera as you're going and fire off a few snaps.
The wrist mounted idea I was thinking maybe a small camera layed down on your wrist with a mirror so that the lens is pointing forwards and a mirror to direct it along your arm (or could gut a camera, moving the CCD/lens etc). They maybe having some contacts attached to your gloves so touching your index finger to your palm took the pic, or something.

meh helmet cam then I suppose, or just make a mount I ought to be a good shock absorber.

I want to do this with some semi-decent wide angle camera. Doing it bike mounted and removable means you can have a bit more weight to get some really good pictures.
(Though, of course, how much that matters for web use when people'll just view at 640x480 is another matter.)

Something like the LX3 would be very nice to have along, as it's got a very wide angle lens for those epic landscapes along with a sensor from a DSLR and a very good lens to give pinsharp images right to the edges.

heh you might need that much , for the paperwork , my own big trip its not the travelling (petrol / tyres / food / accomodation) that is the expensive bit, its the carnets , insurance and import duties that are expensive,
