It's fecking stupid.

Who the fook owns a Visa Electron card FFS?

This is the exact reason why I have nothing but contempt for Ryanair. I'm pretty sure it doesn't cost £4.75 a flight, per person to process a Visa card, or my Maestro card for that matter. So the £10 trip I was just about to book for myself and Shell to go to Dublin would now cost £29.00 because of card fees.

I'm sorry, but scum, filth and vermin come to mind when it comes to Ryanair's underhand tactics. What's the point in having an amazing sale and then punish you just as you reach for your wallet? Rolling Eyes

Nice find, but meh.

Visa Electron is a student type card, usually given to under 18s or people who don't really have any real income. Not sure why they make this deal exclusive to people using them, the card is usually totaly useless everywhere a bit like Solo.

Not sure it makes them filthy, vermin scum though, that's Hetzer's line anyway.

On the down side it will cost you £6 for a pint of Guiness when you get to Dublin because of the exchange rate to the Euro. My mate was over their last month and got stung for £10 for a panini and chips.

solo is actually a maestro / cirrus card, so can use it everywhere you can use an old switch card, or the maestro card now. It was hardly accepted 8 years ago, but now is a widely recognised card.

but yes, the charges are slightly unacceptable, but still works out bloody cheap for a return flight, try getting a ferry for the same price?

Indeed, a return ferry from Stranraer to Belfast in low season (nov/dec) cost me £140 albeit with a car, was nearly £100 for bike and that was using a 15% discount code i googled, so £30 for a flight is pretty good.

A visa Electron should taken everywhere the Visa logo is displayed.

Just the same as the Solo card the transaction cannot go through without authorisation by the card provider.

The cards can be held by anyone.

Cost to Ryan Air will be just the same to process the transaction as anyother Visa card. Just wonder as they are more widely held by the under 25's that will spend a lot on inflight booze, that is why they are targeting the offers to the card.

Are you trying to claim that including taxes, it only costs ryanair £2.50 per person to fill a plane with fuel and fly it to dublin?! They aren't going to fly a plane at a loss..

They would be "robbing scum" if they didn't tell you. They show the the price in big letters before you pay so noone can claim thery didn't know.

I've got an Electron card and I can only think of 1 time when I couldn't use it, and that was over the phone. In shops its as well accepted as Visa or Maestro, and certainly better than Amex.

Only certain flights are that cheap, you have to fly when they want.

Tax is tax, they do not vary on the time of day, month or week.

i was given a visa electron when i was a student. it's a shit card and you can't actually use it everywhere where the visa logo is.

hein gericke on line rejected it.
train stations reject it.
basically quite a few reject it.

it's a stupid card unless you want to use ryanair.

i now have a visa card which works everywhere but i'm skint :o so that's useless too

Well unless things have changed in the past 7 or 8 years I had the same problem, Lloyds gave me an Electron card to start with and the thing was a total joke. You could use it in some shops, most supermarkets but a lot refused it and you only realised when you got the checkout and it said, "we do not accept Visa Electron or Solo". Petrol stations would never take it, there wasn't a single online purchase you could make using it, the thing was useless.

I kept having to go to cashpoints and withdraw cash to carry around completely negating the point of having a card, and even some cashpoints refused it. Eventually got fed up with it and got a Visa instead which obviously worked everywhere.

No £29 is a good price. However if you are going to advertise a flight at £2.50 each way, making it £10 for 2 people return, you do not then add some ridiculous charge to make up your losses.

If Ryanair cannot afford to make the flight for £10 for everyone, well then they should not advertise it as such. I'm not being retarded, I am making a perfectly valid point. It's not about being stingy, £29 is so cheap to get to Dublin. However, it is not the advertised price is it?

Not how its always been. I remeber debating once whether it was called Solo as only one place would take it...
