I have known for years that if I drink cider, or applekorn I will likely go tilt...I have blacked out a few times, and hit the deck.

Needless to say, I put cider to bed a long time ago and rarely touched it again, apart from the odd sip here and there.

Last night I found out I also cannot drink pear cider...I had less than a small bottle, was luckily at home, went tilt just in the doorway of my bedroom.

I didn't know I was going down...it happened in an instant. I also have no idea how long I was out, but I came round I had a throbbing face. I have a thick eye lid and puffy cheek with minor bruising, carpet burn on the cheek and shoulder, a big bruise on my upper arm, and feel like I have whiplash. Sick

Owwwww....ouch!!

Okay...I officially cannot drink fermented apples or pears... why? I have no idea!

I'm sorry but that is the strangest thing I have heard for a while. Confused

Must be an allergic reaction or something. Confused

I can't even drink a bottle of that stuff, most of it just tastes really strongly of alcohol and hides the actual flavour, there's one that's passable, green label rather than red. Pear cider is all I drink at moment, St Helier or Kopparberg, great stuff, and I don't collapse in a heap. Must be an allergic reaction to the yeast used or something. Wouldn't try it again sounds dangerous.

Once in a while the vision in one eye goes fuzzy, a bit like migrane visuals when I drink cider. I reckon if both eyes went the same way, I'd fall over. Maybe you're having something similar?

Usually only with scrumpy cider and usually only if it is very cold.

I solved this by not drinking it cold. I never subscribed to the fad of ice in cider anyway.

Cyanide in the pips perhaps? , in that surely with the number of apples used in the production of cider they can't remove the pips which contain trace amounts of cyanide.

And thus just bung it all into the fermentation vat, some of it seeps out.

Bit like omnivores people eat, ie crabs / lobsters which eat contaiminated fish which then people eat , putting mercury and other toxins into their systems.

Same as Thumbs Up

Although all I drink down my local is Snakebite and black, made with Stella. God I miss that when I'm in other pubs Crying or Very sad

It is weird the amount of people who get savagely affected by certain boozes. It's like when people say '(x drink) makes me horny/angry/violent'. Always strikes me as odd. Although knowing certain girls only require a glass of red wine to start pole dancing is always fun Laughing

What took me a while to figure out was why sometimes when I was eating I'd collapse face first on the floor Laughing
Turns out that if I'm served something hot, as I don't tend to chew much, when I swallow a huge clump of it it tightens my throat and bosh. Faceplant. Bouncing off a few surfaces before slamming to the deck is certainly an interest way to liven up boring family dinners Thumbs Up

I used to experience this with cider in the early days when I used to drink apple cider more often...

But now its just total wipeout. I'm just really glad I missed all the sharp corners and things that might have cut me - oh and the stairs of course... Shocked

Might have something to do with the ratio of Ethanol/Methanol in it.

Might also have something to do with the Moon's distance from the centre of the universe.

Go do some reading on Cider fermentation, Ciders Methanol content, Methanol toxicity and the relation between Methanol and Ethanol.

Also, Cider made from concentrate generally contains more Methanol.
