My Brother was about to spend £2600 0n a, frankly tatty, ZX636 with 18K miles on it. I had a chat and figured out that he wanted the power of the 636 but the comfort the older model's chassis. I told him about the SRAD suzi's. We have now bought a 750WX for £1625, with MOT etc.

What do you think? A zx636 or a WX750 SRAD.

Personally i've toured, scratched and bimbled on a carb Srad and found them an absolute solid bike.

What about you lot? 636 or WX750 Srad?

By the way, my brother passed his test last week and he has never ridden a "proper" bike before, but he is my brother so he must have SOME fucin idea?

The SRAD isn't really that comfy either to my mind.
The 636 has quite a few advantages and I suspect doesn't lose out much at all in useable power compared to the SRAD.

I'd have kept an eye out for a cheaper 636... though having money in the bank is rarely a bad thing.

Was the 636 on ebay? If it was i think i know the one u mean its got a stubby exhaust? Seen it on youtube being heavily abused so i would have gone with the 750.

It wasnt on the 'Bay, it was for sale in the Triumph Dealers in Tunstall, Stoke on trent.

Erm, one; that is way too high for an A1 to my mind.
Two; the A1 is probably more 'comfortable' in riding position than the SRAD.

I thought the price was a little high for the condition, even for a dealer.

I couldnt comment on the ZX's comfort, i have yet to ride one for a couple of thousand miles.

I just didnt think there was almost £1000 difference between them. The SRAD will be faster, have more midrange, be a little more planted/Stable coz its 4 Kg's heavier.

4kgs doesn't mean much; and there's a lot more in it than just weight.
I'd expect the SRAD will actually be a bit more flighty than that model ZX6.

The midrange power difference will probably be noticable, but there may well not be much in it when pushing either bike.

If those two bikes were the only two options, I'd definitely have gone with the SRAD.

Which one would I have?

But given the two options, the 750 is the more logical choice (again on the cost-benefit and cost-bike ratios) ... so I'd have gone for that too Thumbs Up

I'd say you saved your Bro a grand and not really disadvantaged him at all, as long as he didn't have a long burning 636 itch that needed to be scratched, then give yourself a Thumbs Up

Sort of the same thoughts as myself.

Another point is that these were a lot more SRADs sold than ZX636's, a lot were used for racing when they came out, there should be a lot of panels available quite cheaply to replace the ones he breaks when he drops it. I'd rather drop a bike woth £1600 than one worth £2600.

Well done that man - anyone who owns, rides or even thinks about owning or riding a kawacrappy is as ghey as ghey can possibly be.
Personally, i'd keep a careful eye on your brother - he may start looking at boy's bottoms with desire. Just for considering a kawasaki he already has one foot on the path to the dark side of bummery.

ive always been under the impression that the 600s were a better allrounder than the 750 SRADs due to the 7's having more weight, and not THAT much more power, and an extra what, 10mph top speed?

i would have gone for the 636, but not at that price.

not sure about the 636 etc in weight but i think that a suzuki dealer said the 750 was the same size as the 600 in every aspect and only a few kilo's heavier which doesn't affect performance in an adverse way.

Haven't ridden an SRAD600 myself, but they were well known in the day for being pretty revvy; while the 750 had a bit more midrange beef for easier riding when not being thrashed.

i think the choice is right, even though the srad is one ugly mofo of a bike, they are more reliable, plenty of spares about, and for the price its definitly the better of the 2.

I used to own a WV 750 SRAD, i set the suspension us properly, cable ties round the forks, static sag, total sag, rebound and compression settings after a spirited ride (no wheelies) and final tweaks, it was great, other people who rode it agreed. The suspension was 12000 miles old. It also had a dynojet kit and K+N set up on the dyno, 115BHP at the back wheel and no flatspots what so ever. It always impressed me with the linear power and the midrange pick up. I rode a 600 SRAD around that time and found it really gutless at the bottom end and had to really thrash it to use the top end, which was a bit dissapointing when you got there. Which is what all the magazines were saying when compared to the crop of 600's available at the time.

I reckon on about £300 total on the fuelling and start with the suspension we have got, and set it up.
Lets face it, we could spend the entire £1K on a Maxton setup on the suspendies and the fuelling. This would put the SRAD in a different league to the 636 handling and fuelling wise. But we dont want to do it if we dont have to. Plus he really wouldnt feel the benefit for a long time as he is just starting out on a big bike.

Plus, if you are running a TL1000, most IL4's will feel like thay have no bottom end power, just like an IL4 rider would ask where the top end rush of power is on the TL when compared to say a 98 R1, saying that, i've always fancied a TL-S, just to own the bike that made Hoss Elm eat his own hat.

Anyone remeber that?

Hoss Elm (importer of Ducatis in the 90's : "If the TL 1000 makes more power than the 916 (about 109 as standard) i'll eat my hat" or earwax or something. Bit of a dissapointment for him when the TL came in at about 120 BHP. OOOOPS!!!

The 636 is booked at the same wieght as the 600 SRAD @ 174 KG dry. The 750 SRAD from the same site is booked at 179kg dry.

The 600 SRAD. 67Nm torque @10K. 95BHP at the rear @12.1K.

The 750 SRAD. 80Nm torque @ 10K. 119BHP at the rear @11.9K

Thats a big difference in both power an torque. They make peak power and torque at almost the same revs but with the 750 making more of both the spread of power and torque is a lot more usable.

It looks like what the dealer was saying is about right, 4 more KG's but 13Nm more torque and 24BHP more power than the 600SRAD.

I realise that one dyno can be wildly different to another so unless you actually get the engines on a proper Dynamometer (an expensive and fixed bit of kit, not a rolling road), you just have to compare figures between themselves from the same rolling road if possible.

If it was a B1H 636 (03), Id pay the £2600 and ditch the gixxer, ive had a 750 SRAD and a 750 K2, much prefer my B1H, it handles better, is just as fast, is more fun to ride and I find it comfier because the fuel tank is slimmer meaning your legs arnt forced open, killing your hips on long journeys. You can pick em up for that price nowadays too.
