Me and a mate (not on the forum) went for a spin today as the roads were dry and sun was shining (just about!). After a nice cooked breakfast courtesy of Daz's mum and then putting about 500 layers on we set off from Daz's house and tanked up on fuel. Our vauge plan was to ride the Evo Triangle and stop for pictures along the way but the cold meant we didn't actually stop that much for pictures! We look fat in the pictures because we had so many layers on, not because of all the pies we'd eaten over Christmas!

So we blasted up through Abergele and stopped on the way up to the moors for some pictures:

That corner was a bit pants so we moved on to the moors and onto where we'd join the triangle.

The triangle has everything you could possibly want from a road - Fast open sweepers, technical twisty bits, undulating sections, long straights, good surfacing, great visibilty and amazing views to boot!

With this being the first non commuting ride of the summer we were taking it easy and the roads were caked in grit aswell so that wasn't helping too much either. Anyway, we had a blast and stopped a few times for some pictures (Daz on the Srad and me on the ZRX):

After playing around on some of the corners the cold got the better of us and we headed on up to Betws y Coed for a cup of tea to warm up. There weren't many other bikes out which was a bit suprising considering the dry conditions!:

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_4524.jpg

We then headed home as we both had places to be and people to see and had spent a lot longer at the triangle than we'd planned but I still got to practice some panning shots on the way home!

Flying! ^^

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_4654.jpg

Some dude who rode past just as we were setting off, we could hear him a mile off! ^^^

So that concludes my first proper ride of the year, anyone else out today just for the ride?

Cheers Smile

Assuming you have an SLR, set the shutter speed a bit slower than you would to freeze the action and then pan with the rider whilst taking the shot then just slow the shutter speed down each pass untill the background gets blurry but the rider stays mainly in focus. It's a hard technique to nail so I like to practice as much as I can, I'm getting about a 50% succes rate with it at the moment so I still need loads of practice!

Camera settings for the pans were something like:

ISO 100
1/100th shutter speed
F8 aperture

This link probably explains it better than I just did:

Ha ha yeah, I had to do several roadside photography 101's today! Everytime we pulled over it was like "so what did that button do again?" Laughing

You could easily do it in a aweekend! Ride up on friday after work, ride saturday and sunday morning then ride back on sunday afternoon. Plenty of cheap B+B's around or travelodges on the A55. I'm sure there's plenty of us up here that would be happy to show you around aswell Thumbs Up

I'm yet to have a chance to take photos doing a bit of panning with slower shutter speeds but that seems bloody slow so I'm impressed you got Daz as clearly as you did! Can't wait to have a crack at it, just need to find someone with a bike and some free time!

It's just practice with panning I'm finding, start at a faster shutter speed then just slow it down untill you get the desired effect with consistent results Thumbs Up

No need to wait untill you have a biker mate who's free either, just head out to a road and take pictures of cars going past, I got a few funny pictures of people giving me really perplexed looks when I was doing test shots before Daz rode past!

Look where you're going mister!

Laughing That look just says "What the f**k are you looking at Sunshine?" Laughing

Yeh I dunno I get embarrassed quite easily so I think I might just wait untill some bikers are out, cars just don't look that good in a blurred background shot because there's a lot more going on with bikes wheels (i.e. The discs, chain, wheel spokes etc). Ah well, I'll give it a shot at Easter when I'm back in Dubai again. Thumbs Up

Awesome pictures Rob! I drove (sigh) the Triangle for the first time yesterday and can't believe I've ignored such a beatiful road all these years. I've ridden passed it to Llangollen and Bala loads of times!
