Network card

I've built a PC out of 2 old broken ones but I can't get the network card to work. Even with a fresh install of XP.

I've downloaded different drivers but none of them seem to work, it keeps showing up in device manager with

Uninstall, reinstall, change PCI slots etc and nothing. It's a Realtek chipped thingy RTL 8139.

Any ideas what to try next ?

Dead card? Compatibility issue with the M/B or chipset? That one should be supported out of the box in XP. Try another card if you can, you can get another 8139 from ebay for a few quid, or try a different chipset based card.

If that doesn't work, I would try reseating the card or installing the drivers before you install the card.

Ah yeah the DOS utility, good idea! You can run tests in that and change various config options/resource usages.

I've found an old Belkin card at work, I'll try that when I get home.

Haven't got the PCI slots disabled in the BIOS?

Try resetting the BIOS to factory?

I changed over to the Belkin one and it worked straight off.

So it was plug in and download 650 odd emails !
