I thought that, but depends on the tyres. So anything with tyre chains or studs would work!

I got out my drive and that was about it, did manage to do some doughnuts on the spot though. Ice right under the snow so would have been very dangerous.

Edit, I ride a DRZ hence my post lol!

Was tempted to use the 10R this morning when I found out my colleague had rolled my almost new van over in Macclesfield! Shocked

Thought better of it when I saw cars struggling to get out of the street.

Feet out like outriggers, throttle pinned & you'll go anywhere.

Off roaders are overrated for bad weather road work.

The thing is, they are designed to work on deeply rutted bumpy ground covered with deep mud and sand. They don't make sense on the road because all of their grip/traction inducing improvements are irrelevant.

Long travel suspension? Irrelevant. There are no bumps or ruts, only snow. Soft suspension may be a bonus, but it need not be long travel.

Knobblies? Less grip on the road than narrow road tyres - unless the snow is about four inches deep, and hard packed but not too hard packed. Which isn't likely.

The only thing they have going for them is simply light weight. So, I've established that you don't need suspension longer than normal, so a low centre of gravity would be useful so the bike is easy to pick up when it falls. Narrowness is important for slushy filtering, and narrow road biassed tyres for cutting through the snow and slush.

So, whats got normal lengh but soft suspension, has not got loads of power, has narrow road biassed tyres and is super light weight?

An MZ ETZ of course! Preferably a 301 Saxon Fun! Smile

Although the opportunities for slipping over when kickstarting are quite large...

for wet cold roads, a scooter is best, as its light, and the weight is low

i still miss my gilera runner sp 180

for actual thick snow, you cant beat a small dirt bike with knobblies

most of my commute today would have been better suited to a scooter, but I did a detour to go on some roads with thick snow, and my small dirt bike with knobblies was good

I used to love playing out on the Africa Twin in the snow.

Shame your image doesn't work, but I was curious and that is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

I'd love one of those, I can just imagine bombing down the M4 on that scaring the living heck out of all of the Commuter belt types in their expensive coupes!
