Testing Day

My mate was speaking to me a while back about trying to get me some work experience or something with a racing team as she knows a few of the BSB teams, and I've been invited along to a testing day with Colchester Kawasaki where they're testing two 600s and a thou'.

I am pretty good mechanically, I know my way around a road bike ok, but what kind of things will they be doing with the bikes on a test day, and what are the major differences between road and BSB race bikes?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's not a whole not to do bar download the data from the bike, make suspension adjustments if required and change tyres.

They will tell you what they want you to do so don't worry too much.

Wouldn't imagine there would be that much difference as it's a chain that drives the rear wheel fed from the engine same as a road bike. However little things will make a big difference so something which gives half a second on a lap will be huge.

I suspect you will be making cups of tea and observing ... they might let you do stuff like put warmers on and check tyre pressures (supervised) but they would be crazy to let you loose on anything 'for real' wouldn't they??!?!?

So I wouldn't worry about it ...

TBF they can train you up for any knowledge you are lacking in so I would expect they are looking for someone that fits well into the team and is enthusiastic rather than a master spanner monkey at this stage.

Nope there will be as they asked my mate to but she works in an opticians at the weekends, shame that. Oh well I'm sure there will be plenty of other lovely ladies about.

Show an interest, ask questions and show you've learned what you've been told.

Don't try and act the clown as it's so easy to come across as a prick, but don't avoid the banter so much they think you're a humourless bastard.

In other words, be yourself and if you don't fit in don't give up, keep trying and you might find a team where you do
