What does round the world mean?

In that Phlieas fogg a fictional charactor went rtw in 79 days does it just mean a circumnavigation or to pass through a certain number of capital cities and such like? ...

I mean Nick Sanders holds the record for RTW, but what route did he take? ,

Saajak Lucassen travels RTW but he went all the way down and around Africa then up South America...

And Mondo Enduro went RTW but completely missed Aus and India/SEA.

So whats a good definition of RTW , since I keep finding tons of sexual acts called RTW.

I'm just curious tis all...

Any thoughts?

Is it going in a general direction (North, East, South, West) until you arrive back where you started?

But you could round the word in less than 2 seconds if you walked west 2m away from the North Pole...

I'd imagine depending if you are doing East, West then it is travel in that general direction until you get back to your start point and cover at least 24,901.55 miles. And for North, South, 24,859.82 miles.

Note the distances are the circumference of the world.

If a compass actually pointed to the North at the North Poll (it points to the magnetic poll, different place), and you followed the compass' west you'd be able to do it in a tiny circle.

Question I learnt in scouts, "Where are you if you can walk South for 1 miles, then West for 1 mile, and then North for 1 mile and end up in the same place you started?" The answer is the North Poll.

If you were at the north pole, the only direction you could go would be south. Once you had taken a single step, you could then turn 90 degrees left or right, and circumnavigate the earth very quickly.

very good question but to do it for real would be near impossible.

for me anyway, to do a real round the world trip, it would involve all environments and all modes of transport. i would want it to be done through physical labour or at least no motor.

canoes for seas. walking through forrest and deserts. bicycles on roads. maybe air ballooning some parts. skiing through mountains. probably die trying or take a long time though.
