Buying a half done streetfighter project?

Would you do it? Theres one on ebay 2 hours from me which I'm tempted to go view.

They are always advertised as 'needs work for MOT' bloody hell, why not take 2 minutes to list what work it needs.

Its almost as bad as buying a 'damaged repairable'. Remember, if there are 6000 ish components on the motorcycle and the bike is "99% complete for MOT" thats still 60 things that need doing.

Also it could be an unfinished project for a reason. Maybe the back wheel and the front sprocket don't line up. Maybe he is missing that one important engine component which is no longer available new or used.

If you are well aware that you might never be able to finish it then fair enough but don't buy it thinking you'll be able to finish it for the summer.

i have a vfr 750 street fighter you can buy off me, Its army green with a black stripe down the middle.

I have put a fair bit of money into it since i bought it a year ago. Needs fork seals for MOT.

up to you but MarJay is right.

Project's are best bought off someone half reliable but if money isn't a problem and you want to take a punt go for it. However if it's anything over a couple of hundred pound i wouldn't bother incase it's a chocolate fireguard and collecting money back isn't going to make your money back.

Bought a CB250 which was goosed but got most of my money back (£200) and still got the engine and frame. Might one day use it as a project for something fun.

Look over the bike first, but often the reason is just a simple 'not enough time' or 'lost interest'.

Make sure all the major bits work ok.

Also do make sure it's pretty damn cheap as you can get complete streetfighters for not much too.

Ever thought, they may not actually know what needs to be done for the MOT..

Diffrent MOT testers, will get diffrent results.

I've been looking for a classic project for a while now and have noticed that completed bikes often seem to go for slightly less than a good project. May I suggest buying a complete bike then getting a mate to take a couple of bits out and then go at it with a hammer for 5 mins...
