Hi.

Does anyone have experience buying a certificate from this ebay user?

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KAWASAKI-33BHP-RESTRICTOR-KIT-PAPERWORK-FOR-ALL-KAWASS_W0QQitemZ230322633645QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motorcycle_Parts?hash=item230322633645&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

eg. am I likely to end up with my bike being cloned if I give him my details?

Thanks for any help.

You dont need a "restriction certificate"

No where does the law state what method of proof is required, a dyno printout is just as admissable as proof as any FI certificate,

FI International have the market cornered and blindsided with new riders such as yourself believing you need a certificate.

I have been stopped by police on a unrestricted bike during my 2 years, they handed me a producer with "33bhp Certificate Proof" written on, i took a letter from a "mechanic" to the police station stating i had restrictors fitted on xx/xx/xxx and that was fine, the law is poorly thought out, i advise you against paying 30 quid to some joker on ebay for what will probably be a printout.

No insurance company ever asked me for proof of restriction either, they may try and get trickty and demand a certificate of restriction, just ask them where in law it states you need one...

"kawasaki 33BHP RESTRICTOR KIT PAPERWORK FOR YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY.EVEN IF YOU HAVE LOST YOUR ORIGINAL WE CAN DO ANOTHER ONE.please make sure you have one fitted already as we do not want to get involved with any illegal activity.

So they're charging you £30 for a printed out piece of paper with your Bike Reg, VIN and engine no saying, "This is restricted to 33bhp - signed some bloke on ebay", for a bike he's
never seen, with the dubious copout of "please make sure you have one fitted already". Sounds like the best blag out there.

Might as well get it printed off by Half Lyfe, he's a mechanic isn't he? A piece of fancy headed conqueror or certificate notepaper from Staples printed under the business of "Half Lyfe's Bikes - I bend the needle so far it's off the scale. This bike is hereby certified restricted to 33bhp. I know it is cos he said it was, as I do not want to get involved with any illegal activity." Done. Ink dry, jobs a good un.

Sounds as good, and at least you know the money is going to a good cause, repairing whatever he's currently trashed on his Duke" Wink

yeah, I know I am not required to have one by law.

The problem that comes is when a cop takes my bike off me because he suspects it's not restricted and I have no proof.

Fraser H Cameron on here has been kind enough to lend me one of his washers and from that I have had copies made up which are arriving tomorrow.

I will try and fit them tomorrow. I do want to get the bike dyno'd but I can't find anywhere in Glasgow that does them.

I have not mentioned restriction to my insurer but from my age, and the bike I have they should know.

What they are trying to say is that a certificate has absolutley no legal standing. You may as well spend 5 minutes on Word doing it yourself, or as G once suggested scrawl "this bike is under 33bhp, honest guv" across an A4 piece of paper in bright orange crayon.

The only thing that 'proves' you are restricted is a Dyno sheet showing the power curve for the bike. If the Police want to they will have the bike taken to their facility (or have a roadside unit as per some posts last summer) regardless of 'paperwork'

The word on here is that you can ask for a defered test if you get caught, however I am not sure what that is based on from a legal POV.

Rats, I was about to make £20. Laughing

Don't bother buying it off him. If the police suspect you of riding unrestricted they will dyno the bike regardless.

If you really want proper proof get a dyno run with the restrictors in. It'll cost you £25-£30 and you can see how well your bike's running at the same time.

To be honest, I think the certificate is a waste of money! whether it be from FI or some eBay joker.

the certificate is not actually legally needed and a good thing that is, at the extortionate prices they are sold at.

mind you, most the police are so incompetent that they havent got a clue about the whole restriction law anyway, so u dont really have anything to worry about anything unless your stunting or doing silly speeds lol.

Thumbs Up

If your bike gets taken off you, They will dyno it anyway. And when they see it is restricted to 33bhp. They will give it back to you. Thumbs Up

If it isnt restricted, Then its your own fault really. Laughing

You dont need a restriction certificate. When I insured my bike, (NC29) they didn't even ask if it was restricted.

By the way in my experience the insurance companies that do ask for proof will only accept an FI certificate or a dyno printout. So an ebay certificate won't help.

The Examiner was very close to not letting me to my test on my RS , he got this box file out and was fliping through it for ages , and said technically you need to prove you havent done anything to make the bike faster and he took my word for it, luckily.

And you think that bit of paper will make any diffrence. If they think its running unrestricted then they will impound it till they can test it, paper or not.

So save the £30, you might need it for the taxi on the way home Laughing

I've read posts on here by people who HAVE put the cops off by waving some paper at them.

Don't see why not, so long as you make it suitably bureaucratic and official-looking.

space it out a bit more and it'll look more professional than FI's actual certificate. Laughing

EDIT:

a pretty crappy pic, but its my certificate from FI lol... its a cheap bit of A4 with no colour, and yes, that is the original (minus the classy bit of airbrushing!) Laughing
