Hi all,

The chain adjuster on the right side of my bike seems to be stuck solid. I can turn it but under close inspection all I'm doing is twisting the bolt. I assume the inside of the swing arm is threaded, what would the best way to fix it be, I was thinking snap it off then try to drill out the nut. Before anyone asks everything is loose includeing the rear brake, and the bolt is stuck both ways.

Cheers

Chris

It's a TDM900, I don;t have a pic but it is the type where a bolt with a nut on it goes into the swingarm and you unscrew the bolt to increse the distance between the sprockets.

i had this problem and it was pretty simple to fix... but i appologise if i have misunderstood you!

rather than 'unscrewing' the nuts,

unscrew the lock nut then 'tighten' the adjuster nut (towords the swing arm) with a spanner and this will move the rear wheel back.

I think the adjuster he's describing the same as the ones on my CBR600FX. There are no lock nuts. You simply unscrew the bolt from the swingarm and it pulls the adjuster and therefore the wheel backwards. Thumbs Up

thats funny, i have cbr600fw and i tried that and yes it works but its difficult to line up the rear wheel and keep the chain tight whilst tightening the axle

seriously try tightening the nut instead and the adjuster moves the rear wheel for you ... thats what it's designed to do

holds its position and much more precise

The X and the W are completeley different bikes, the frame and swingarm are completely different. Thumbs Up

I know the one you mean though, my dad had an FW and I've had two hornets which has the same swingarm. Thumbs Up

Not my TDM obviously, but this is the same set up the nut to the left is moves fine but the bolt that comes out of the swing arm won't turn it only twists.

apply MILD heat to nut and then try turning it. if not get some pliers and hold the bolt while turning the nut. placing something like cardboard on the surface of the bolt will stop you from destroying the thread on the bolt. sounds like its just got stuck on the thread if I'm reading this right.
when you do get it free loosen it all the way off and apply a small amount of grease to the bolt to stop it from seizing.
