What I was going to do was move the footer upwards then you can just trim it with a stanley knife once printed out.

One thought on waving certificates under the nose of a copper without having restrictors in- If you get a clued-up or bloody minded copper, does that not leave you open to being charged with perjury or conspiracy to PTCOJ should they decied to actually test the machine? Given the choice between those and riding outside of the terms of my license, I know what I would choose!

That's when you say you were told it was restricted when you bought it, apologise a lot and look shocked Razz

It'd be extremely difficult, if not impossible, for them to prove you intentionally lied.

Thats what I plan on doing if I ever need to. I got a certificate with the bike when I bought it claiming its at 33bhp (it's not) which should be enough to convince the cops. If it doesn't, I'll just say I didn't know.

Hopefully I won't have to though, only 11 months to go. Last time I got stopped they didn't even ask about restriction despite giving the bike a good going over to look for anything illegal.

Well, I don't know about difficult.

"This bloke bought this bike from you. He claims you told him it was restricted and provided this certificate. Is this true?"

or

"This bloke claims you restricted the bike for him and provided this certificate. Is this true?"

If either of these fine gentlemen say 'no', you're going to have an issue. If they say 'yes', and the police do test/examine (and you've not played the deferred inspection card), you're both going to have some explaining to do.

If you neither confirm or deny that the machine is restricted, the worst they can do you for is the fact that it isn't restricted. In my (layman's!) view, handing over a certificate or receipt similar, knowing full well that the bike isn't/is no longer restricted displays a level of wilfulness or deliberation that may not do you any favours in the long run.

Of course, anecdotal evidence suggests that a certificate can satisfy a copper's internal checklist, especially given the worrying lack of knowledge of the licensing system that can sometimes be displayed.

It's an individual's choice as to how they play that. I'm not a gambling man and if I were obliged to be restricted, then restricted I would be. My licence is too important to me to do anything else.

a pretty crappy pic, but its my certificate from FI lol... its a cheap bit of A4 with no colour, and yes, that is the original (minus the classy bit of airbrushing!) Laughing


I'll make a replica when I have time Laughing Looks a bit simple.

Only problem is the installer details, unless you just put any old industrial estate address down.

I'm not saying ignorance is a defence against riding an unrestricted bike.

Ignorance however is a defence from being charged with PTCOJ etc.

You can quite happily claim you were led to believe it was restricted, whether or not the old owner says he never told you it was. You merely misunderstood Thumbs Up

my bike is restricted (no, really... it actually is!!) so if I were to be stopped, I wouldnt be breaking any laws and I'd still have my worthless bit of A4 to say that it is regardless of the copper believing me or not, so theres no conspiracy or perjury Thumbs Up

and IIRC the OP is planning to fit washers that his friend gave him, so nowhere is anyone saying they want to break the law (although, im sure a lot do!), only that they want to sell him home-made certificates Laughing

Aside from being called 'Mr' Laughing he doesn't answer why he is making money by perpetuating the myth that 33bhp restriction can only be performed by a 'dealer' for £££'s and that any kind of paperwork (again £££'s) is required.

He didn't see fit to publish my question on his listing, unsurprisingly...

What are the certificates that the guy is actually selling I wonder.

They are not FI certificates as he asks for the engine number in his advert and that is not needed on an FI certificate Thinking
