I have no idea where to start 
Its a really nice day out - bit chilly tho
Found my charger to my camcorder so might go get some footage.
Do I need a Video Capture card for the PC?
The cam itself has an AV port (earphone socket look) and a DV port.
Do I need certain leads....
I did have a video card months ago but I cant find so been looking here.

Connect a 4-6 or 4-4 pin firewire cable to the DV port and firewire port on your PC (camera will have the smaller 4 pin socket, PC could have either big 6 pin (same size as USB) or 4 pin (same as camera) socket. If you don't have firewire ports on the PC, you can get a firewire card that will work. Windows Movie Maker can then capture footage down the firewire cable! It's plug'n'play so should just work. Hope that makes sense.

I dont know if this has a firewire card as it was built from scratch by the ex lol
Ive seen the wires, just deciding on a card - this is the cheapest

Should be fine, but if you look on the back of the PC, where all the other ports are, you might find firewire ones there.
They are built in to some motherboards. Usually labeled IEE1394 or just 1394, or with the firewire symbol:

Edit: you might also have a firewire 800 port, requiring a different cable, which is squarer and looks like the third one along in this pic:
