As above really, I'm thinking about going this year with a mate. Not been touring on the bike before so I thought it might be a gentle introduction....

Any suggestions for routes, places to stay etc. welcome.

I've not been to Assen before, but will be going this year. By the looks of it though the actual journey looks pretty boring. Make sure you pack your waterproofs as it usually rains there when MotoGP is on.

I was hoping to just turn up and find a campsite, but perhaps I'm being a bit naive? Should be fun as I've never really properly camped before.

What bike have you got and where abouts in the country are you starting out from? My biggest tip would be to consider taking the ferry from either Harwich or Hull straight to Holland. Unless you are located down south it is a long way to go if you ride all of the way down to Dover and then up and round to Assen from Calais.

What sort of panners have you got planned for the hornet? As I was always advised by the people at hein gericke not to use throw overs as they will melt on the exhaust Neutral

Hm, panniers hey? None!! I was thinking of using a givi topbox that I got with the bike when I bought it, and a rucksack. Travel light. You know I'll only need one pair of cacks for four days etc... Laughing

Sounds alright then, I have done cycle for four days before with very little, but we didn't camp... with adding a tent, ground mat and sleeping bag, plus some cooking stuff it all of a sudden gets a lot more to carry.
