I'm thinking it would be sensible to fit these to my bike but I know very little about them - I get the impression some are much better than others, can anyone recommend a particular brand? And how much am I likely to have to pay? Thanks!

I'd say go for R&G everyone I've spoken to about them rates them as the best you can get. I keep meaning to buy some but I'm put off by cutting the fairings so looking for an upper crash bung that doesn't require cutting of the fairing. Definetly buying the lower bung from R&G though.

R&G are indeed good, just be warned that some times mushroom can cause more damage if the dig in to the ground and flip the bike over etc.

Mine recently bent round on them selves and cracked my frame Sad

Ive seen some new ones made by motrax and a few other companys and there desighned to stop that happening?

I had R&G on my J model ZX6 and they seemed good. Hopefully they are a lot more likley to protect than to cause damage.

Whatever you get, make sure it mounts onto a major frame/engine mounting point. If it's just on a fairing mounting point they can cause fairing damage from even a minor drop.

I have the motrax ones.I think they were about £20. Very Happy
Not bothered about all the horror stories about them bending the frame if you drop it.If you drop it that hard the bike was going to be pretty poorly anyway. Crying or Very sad
Mine didn't need any cutting done to fairings and have already payed off when i dropped it on ice(with snow compacted on top of it!).
Just wish I had put them on before my first drop...... Confused

well if those pics are of the motrax ones they look a whole lot better than the r+g ones which look like huge plastic tubes sticking off your bike?? Blobs I can handle Smile
Aside from that the r+g ones appear to cost £90 - I know that's less than a new fairing panel but it's a lot more than I expected Shocked

Perhaps the £20 ones are for me!

Your choice of course, but you'll get actual recommendations of the R&G ones from several people on this forum (including myself). Not sure you'll get that for the Motrax ones, somehow.

If they are the same Motrax one's that I've seen then I've heard more stories of them causing damage thans saving it.

You gets what you pays for as they say... unfortunately I suspect it's the same as a lot of other Motrax shit products... made for show not go Smile.

They are little 'mushroom' (mostly) shaped 'things' that you fit to the side of your bike, they are slightly proud of the rest of the bodywork, so that when the bike goes for a tumble, they take the impact, not the bodywork. Sadlt I cant really fit them to my bike, as its a naked one (oo err!) and would look daft!

If money wasn't an issue I would be on a newer bike with better kit and enjoying more trackdays and weekends without having to work, but since I don't live in that world I have to make do with what I can afford, namely motrax crash mushrooms, better than nothing, and like I said earlier in the thread, they have already saved bike once.
A friend had a faster slide than mine on same mushrooms on a track day, they did wear down fast and wouldn't be good for another go but apart from that they saved a lot of damage. They didn't make the bike slide unusually, they didn't catch and flip the bike or increase the length of the slide, they just stopped his fairing being chewed up.

Like I said,better than nothing.

thanks for that Steve, you might have persuaded me that even getting some cheaper ones might be worthwhile!
(the zx6r dropped at slow speed, cracked 2 fairing panels, been spending the last 2 weeks fixing them. If £30 could stop that sort of thing then it seems worth it!)

Maybe they are different ones, or you've just been lucky, but from what I've seen/heard they are /worse/ than nothing. If they mount on fairing mounting points rather than the frame/engine then enough weight to bend the point and your fairing will crack rather than just be scractched.

Got a link to the one's you've got?

on the zxr the motrax ones fit on to the fairing mounting point, which doesn't sound like the best idea. Looks like I'm back to not buying any mushrooms at the moment!
