a mate of mine had a Mobylette Motobecane when we first left school (1974), it was brand new, 2 stroke with centrifugal clutch, horrible thing to ride (wobbled more than elastic band) but strangely enough it was the fastest thing around back then (faster than fizzies, honda ss50's or my Puch VZ50)...
it just took a little time to get rolling but would do about 55-60mph with the wind behind it, once it had "eventually" caught us with gears up it would just keep creeping away from us (loads of skinny 16 year olds laying prone over the tank with our feet on the rear pegs or racks )...
he was a complete nutter as he would every now and then catch up with a coach on the A45 as it passed and then sit in the still air tight against the back of the coach and go screaming off with it into the distance ____________________ it ain't broke...
i ain't fixed it enough |

That is one good thing about them. You can gear them for decent top speed as you can pedal to help get it moving. I need to buy another one |
