iTunes vs Media Player... Fight!

My g/f uses iTunes on the computer because she has a iTop Touch, whereas I prefer to use Media Player and I have a Nokia N95.

Unfortunately we have ended up with a random collection of music on the computer in different formats, so I have decided I will just wipe all our music and start ripping again in a format we can both use.

Presumably the best (or only) format for her to use on iTunes/iPod stuff and me to use via Media Player and then on to my N95, would be mp3?

Secondly, I am happy to let her use iTunes on her account on the computer, but I don't want it influencing my account (it's my computer!) at all. If her iPod was plugged in and I went to my account it would always start up iTunes. Is there any way I can run iTunes in her account, but have it set-up so I never, ever have to see that damn bit of software appear in my profile?

In short, is it possible to run iTunes and Media Player on one computer, in two profiles, using a common shared library of music?

If you fiddle with media players or itunes library settings you can tell them where to specifically look for music files so you can have a middle ground folder that all the music is stored in, just make sure you set it so that both devices rip music to the same point.

MP3 will work on both, I can't think of any other format that would. To try stopping itunes run msconfig.exe and tell it to stop all apple services at startup. I don't know if it alters all accounts however so I'd check the other account after fiddling.

I'm also a media player/N95 user and I do agree that itunes is wank.

You don't need iplayer, get winamp to put the songs on her ipod.

Start>run>msconfig.exe

From here, in your profile, select for itunes not to load during start up.
