computer games that bring back happy memories

Iv just installed a few emulators on the pc and have spent a happy few hours reminiscing my way through the 8-bit collections.

I grew up pretty much always having a computer in my life from the old 2600 through the amstrad 464 up to the amiga and remember fondly the joy they brought ( especially if id managed to wangle a day off school sick and wasnt allowed out)

Does anyone have any games from their childhood that bring back memories for them?

For me its the likes of jet set willy, golden axe and ghosts and goblins, all looking very dated now but still somehow playable to me.

I always liked Asteroids and Defender.

Have you got Mame? That has around 500 old arcade games for it.

Actually I lie.

I used to play a game called Crystal Quest on apple macs WAY BACK in the late 80s (don't have any screenshots of it, though) - I got well into it, used to have battles with the typesetters at my work for supremacy.

But I suspect most of you were not even born then

God, I recon this thread is just about to be swamped by a load of young'uns telling us about old PlayStation and N64 games which will serve to make anyone in their 20s feel about 70!

Did anyone ever get those computer magazines you could get with games written in them?

All you had to do was type in 15 a4 pages of Basic to play the game and the computer invariably crashed just as you were nearly done typing.

I was never allowed a games console, so missed out a bit on the old 8 bit systems. I had to save up for my first Playstation, took ages on paperound wages. But the first, and maybe, quite possibly, the last game that captivated me so much...

I cant find any decent images but R-Type on the Commodore 64 was a good one for me.

Oh the days of loading by tape and the load screen coming up line by line.
