Alright all!
Been meaning to sign up here for a while as I passed my test in September, but am only just now looking to get my first bike!
Better introduce myself - I've been an avid petrolhead for as long as I can remember, loved biking as a kid and was always on the fields on my DT125 and similar but as soon as I was old enough I moved straight to cars. My current is an imported EK9 Civic Type-R:

But for the last few years I've been feeling the urge to bike again!
Got a budget of about £1500 tops for my first bike, at present I'm seriously contemplating a 1995 Yamaha FZR 600, so would be interested in anybody's view as to whether this would be a good first bike.
A lot of the usage will come from driving in central London (although not for a while, need to build up confidence before I put myself in with the kinda drivers there!) so am not sure if the bike is the best choice, or if somethig more along the lines of a supermoto would be more suited?
Anyways, I'm gonna lurk round the forum for a bit and soak up some info, but looking forward to chatting with you all!! ____________________ "If it hasn't got an engine attached to it, it's not a sport" |

Nice Car
I'm from London but have limited experience riding. What I would say is that something like a Hornet would be good or something along those lines from what other have said. Although I see a lot of people riding the Yam too so it probably comes down to the old dilemma faired or un-faired that is the question ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

Ebay. Searh under completed listings, the green ones are the ones that actually sold.
From a quick glance there are a few

For that money it isn't going to be perfect but then neither is a 13 year old fzr. At this money you really need to know what you are looking for to make sure thay haven't had a big one that's damaged the frame. But there are some that are basically sound just a bit rough around the edges. |

Don't go out and get a supersports600 for your first roadbike, especially if you are going to ride in London.
Try looking to something like the CB500 (Standing quartermile is 10.something seconds dependant on the rider), or possibly the Dominator/Transalp.
Get something around the 8 to 10 year mark that has been well serviced and maintained. Bang an engine guard on it and an Arc Race can if you can find one.
Should be in the region of £1200, allowing you to invest in a big assed lock, ground anchor and smartwater.
