Oxford Hot Hands...any good?

Can anyone provide a recommendation for these (or reasons not to buy)?

Looking at a set of these as opposed to heated grips as I only want to use for cold weather and they look like they can be more easily fitted/removed.

Bit of a waste of time tbh. Also, because they're for all applications, they have masses of surplus wire hanging everywhere.

Because of this I ended up carefully removing all the plastic clips trying not to damage them, cutting the wires down, and refitting them all together, which probably took longer than just buying a set of permanent ones and fitting those instead.

The only reason I have them is because they came with the bike.

Wouldn't reccommend them at all, personally.

Yes, I would recommend them, they keep the hands very toasty and if you have a habit of changing your bike every year (or have several bikes at a time) they are ideal. They take less than 5 minutes to take off one bike and fit to another!

I would rather have heated grips. They don't cost much more and it'd not as if you are going to change your bike so often.

Had them on my last 3 bikes.

I think they are excellent.

They do make your grips a bit wider, but i've got totally used to them.

I still have them on in summer. Sometimes on a summers night about 10 O'clock and when your gloves are vented. They are ideal.

The best money i spent on the bike so far.Couldnt do without them now,keep you hands warm ,and so easy to turn on when moving as well.

General concensus seems to be good - I've read on another forum someone preferred these to the more permanent Oxford Hot Grips that their partner had on another bike - they got much warmer apparently.

I will give some feedback when I've bought and fitted.

I bought some over replacment type grips because I didn't want them on all year round.

I've had them on for about a month now and so far so good.
My gloves arn't great but they still manage to keep them comfortable. Only the very tips of my fingers get cold now.

The 'excess' wiring is very easy to hide away so I didn't find it a problem. While they do add a little to the diameter of the bars its not enough to cause a problem.

I've also got a set of hand guards waiting to be fitted which should complement the 'Hot Hands' quite well.

Bought a set from a shop on Ebay - £32.00 Inc postage - fitted them earlier tonight. I'm hoping to test them out on tomorrows commute if it's not icy.

Would have preferred to have connected through the ignition but was unsure how to so connected directly to battery instead (will have to take care not to accidentally leave switched on...)

As commented previously, there is a lot of excess wire but think I've managed to rap most of it out of the way.

Oxford Hot Hands - the verdict...

Used for first time yesterday - WOW these things gets hotter than the sun!

Palms actually become a bit uncomfortably hot when stationery at t/l's etc (no variable heat setting) but great when riding along. I found the best thing was to switch on and off between sets of lights - this was fairly easy to do, even in gauntlets. Ideally, you would get most benefit if used with a set of wind deflectors or bar mits as I found extremeties of fingers still got chilled - I'll probably wait to pickup a cheap set in summer ready for the next winters crappy weather saga.

They were relatively easy to fit (and will be simple to remove I guess).

I'd complain more if they didn't get warm enough so overall they are v. good value for the money.

I got R&G heated grips, which are now fitted, it's the first time I've used them. They were actually ratehr good at keeping my hands warm Very Happy

Just put them on my bike yesterday and commuted this morning, they do get quite hot but I wouldn't say unbearably so. It would be nice to have a thermostat though. The heat on your palms is quite a weird sensation if you're not used to it these things make your grips larger, which isn't too much of a problem for me. Easy to fit but with quite a bit of excess wire that I had to creatively tidy up. For good measure, squirted some ACF-50 over all the plugs/contacts before assembling everything. Wired them direct to the battery (manual says that's okay) but I'll probably run them off a relay fed by the ignition switch if/when I can be bothered. I'd say worth it IMO, especially if you want to move them from bike to bike.

I'm toying with the idea of these, would they be worthwhile if I do a LOT of motorway journeys on a sportsbike, as in 200 mile stints? Only problem being that my palms remain relatively warm but my digits get pretty cold, so i'm not sure if these will alleviate the situation.
