Why wont my MP3 player connect?

Its plugged into the usb port all the software is installed and it just says please connect your mp3 player.

How can i fix it?

What OS are you using ? windoze, linux, osx

Going to need more information than that. Unless there's a switch on the back that has broken/fixed?

cheers guys i fixed it now. i had to do this...

went to my "my computer" then right clicked in a random space in the box and went to "properties".
then went to "hardware" and "device manager".
clicked the top one on the list, the little computer with some random numbers showing. highlighted it then clicked on "scan for hardware changes" (next to the paper with the yellow question mark).

FIXED.
