What happens next?

I bought my 2005 Aprilia RX50 Racing around a month ago and I was told it had 3100 miles. I've had a look through the manual twice and messed about with the buttons on the clocks, following the instructions in the manual of course, and im 99% sure my bike doesn't record the total mileage as it's more designed for the race track.

I was wondering how it is possible/legal in this day of age for a motorbike not to store the total amount of miles even if it is a racing bike?

Can a bike go through a MOT without the mileage being noted?

The man I bought it off said the total mileage came up after it has been rode about for a while, which doesn't change anything, as I've tried it.

Since the bike was made in Sept 05 it doesn't need a MOT untill Sept 09 and the mileage has never been recorded before, so no-one would have a record of the mileage.

Err, first off, I didn't think your bike is actually a 'race' bike... as far as I know it's just a pretty standard road bike that they stuck 'racing' on to sell more I'm afraid. Pictures on google look very much like that, anyway.

I would be pretty sure the clocks should record total milage. It's no problem getting an MOT if they don't - I've had an MOT with a push bike speedo that had a fresh battery so showed 0 miles. They were ok with it, but just put something about no reading.

Either your bike is broken, or you aren't pressing the right buttons.

Or its done a lot more miles than the bloke said and it was deliberately nobbled.

It maye be that it seems to be under recording as the mileometer is configured in KM not miles. I had the same problem with My Senda.

Yes its not a race bike its a moped and it should of been due an Mot last september not next september........

Page 22 shows how to get the total milage reading.

As above, the first MOT is due when the bike is 3 years old, so should have already had an MOT.

My RS250 had a lap timer and all sorts of other 'race' stuff on the dash, but was still a standard road bike.

You do need an MOT, which suggests your bike must already have one.

It would need an MOT for the tax, but then someone could have MOTed it and just not given you the "certificate". Think you can check this online yourself.

Looks like the instructions are in lousy English. I would guess that there are 2 similar settings, either ODO being the total mileage or DST for the "race distance". I suspect what they mean by modifying the value is from ODO to DST.

Hi mate, can you get a picture of the dash?
Im pretty sure I had the exact same model as you and it SHOULD have came with analouge clocks, not digital (im thinking digital when you're saying that you've been messing with the buttons). Cheers

Edit: I think that 05 might have been the year they changed over from the old to new design - so likely yours have the digital clocks in which case im going to be no use

However as it was mentioned earlier remember that the milage will be in KM so not miles
