ill post some pics up tommorow.

err apparentley someone who knows r6 engines said it will be because of the weight on the back on the alternator had come off and that ballances the crank. he hasnt seen the engine he just reckons thats what did it.

all the main beraings are fine and it cracked on the first big end so only threw that big end shell, all the others were fine.

so what would you lot do.
it will cost the same for a another engine but i wont know the history, where as with mine it will have new shells, and a new gearbox. or shall i stick a fuel injected r6 engine in? or an r1 engine.

decisions decisions.

A low mileage R6 engine is going to be the easiest and possibly best idea. You should be able to find one with anything from 3-10k on it which is nothing. The only thing i don't know is how much a bike breaker will charge you for a decent used engine? Get the same type as the version thats in there now, as trying to get an FI engine and then either convert it to run well on your existing carbs, or trying to get a later FI setup fitted and working on your bike will be so much of a ballache and probably expensive too.

re-building the existing engine is not worth it if it's going to cost the same or more than getting a decent replacement lump IMO!

I assume as a mechanic he's planning to do it himself.

I should have a spare crank, but suspect it's well hidden under piles of stuff at Korn's somewhere.

will cost me like 250 - 350 quid to do the engine rebuild, and the cam chains a tad noisey, 2 engine bolt heli coils ripped out (not important ones), scratched cover, clutch is half way through its life, and the covers are all scratched. new engine is like 500.

Think I'd definitely be getting a new engine - can probably break the current one and sell on some bits to make some of the money back too (especially gearbox if it was ok.)

Seems like it might be more cost effective for you to get a new bike on 0% finance. Also go Honda Smile

Just get a new motor in it mate not worth messing about with rebuilding it if its thrown a main bearing. Plenty of crashed R6s on the bay you could get one from.

Hmm, maybe not then.

Could swap it for the zxr in my avatar? In similar condition, one careful lady owner, never raced, rallied or wheelied Shifty

But it does run and has a working crankshaft. Mr. Green

Yes, I have a 5EB motor for sale (well two actually, but only intend to sell one, not both).

Where abouts are you based?

Oh, I also have a crank, pistons, rods etc separately too.

So you can have a complete engine to put in it NOW and then rebuild your engine with the other bits and keep it as a spare or sell that on to re-coupe some dosh!! Thumbs Up
