 |
|
Well it only took 3 weeks to drop it!
My own stupid fault for going out in such adverse conditions. Went to Stafford to pick up a seat cowl, did the ~40 miles round trip and came off about half a mile away from home.
I was doing about 20-25 mph, 0% throttle, didn't touch the brakes, bike just came from underneath me. Went down on the right hand side. I was sliding down the opposite side of the road (fortunately nothing coming the other way), the car behind me locked up and was sliding towards me on the ice, the car behind him locked up and gave the bike a bit of nudge.
Damage looks fairly catastrophic for the speed I was going. Needs all fairings, headlamp, brake lever and engine cover at least. Everything else looks straight, but remains to be seen.
No real damage to me or gear, head didn't touch the floor and no real scrapes on the leathers.
Came at a bad time too. My collegue managed to roll my 6 month old van last week on 3rd party insurance and the car is going into BMW tomorrow to have head gasket done, so it'll be a while before the Ninja gets fixed me thinks.
Only got a couple of shitty phone pics at the moment:

Dude, my heart bleeds for you mate! . Can't really think of anything consoling or comforting to say and it's just such bad luck! Fate and luck works in rather mysterious ways but I hope that you can see some sort of positive side to this event and look forward in the hope that the bike will be ready for summer.
Snow, Ice and thous do not mix well and it goes to show that even the experienced of us (well you wouldn't buy a unless you think you can hack it) can still succumb to terrible misfortune.

Thanks for the comments guys. I am well and truly gutted believe me. I just keep wishing I could turn back the clock and not of gone out, then thinking of all 'if **** hadn't of happened then I wouldn't of gone on the bike' etc.

Yeah, I was amazed at what a mess it looked when I picked myself up off the floor. The fairings are almost paper thin. If it had happened on the 7R I'm sure I'd only be needing one fairing panel. The 10Rs must look a right mess in a high speed off.
If anyone else reading has had an accident, you know when everyone comes up to you and asks if your OK for ages, I was just looking at the bike and was almost crying inside.
After the shock had worn off my ribs are a little bruised and a tad painful, and the shoulder hurts a bit.
EDIT: I really wish my 900th post was in a different thread! ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

I tell ya those ZX10Rs are cursed, probably why even when I had an excellent op to buy one I didn't as part of the many reasons I didn't.
I kept visiting breakers and saw 5-6 broken ones at breakers and I've visited about 16 breakers lately.
But hey it can always be fixed right as long as you are ok... ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. In the end, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching. |

IIRC the nose cone is practically held on by the plastic air scoop which bolts to the frame.
|
You're quite right, once that gets smashed the fairings just flail about all over the show. The O/S fairing detached itself from the centre scoop, flung itself to the other side and damaged the N/S fairing panel. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

yeah, my headlight is pretty shattered at the lugs.
i made a metal bracket and bolted it into the side of the headlight and it worked well until recently when the plastic decided to bore itsself out over time, now it rattles around.
i need a hew headlight.
nosecones, maybe hard to find mint, but they dont self destruct on impact ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. Bollocks man, really feel for you. You said the car behind 'nudged' the bike, so did they rear end you? Surely if that's the case you could claim off their insurance?
Having trouble actually picturing what happened. |

No not at all. The bike just slid from under me, no one connected with the bike whilst I was aboard. I watched the car nudge it as I was sliding down the road.
There'll be no insurance involved. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

Well very admirable of you to not be involving insurance, I'm sure a lot of people would making a big play of the fact the car hit the bike even though it was already down.
Just hate to see new bikes crashed, I crashed mine a week after getting it on the road and it was horrible, so can only imagine how you feel with such a nice machine |

Yep, was going to buy some of them this week.
| Quote: | perhaps you did subconciously because you wanted to repaint it yellow? |
, as tempting as it is to paint it yellow, this repair job is going to have to be done on the cheap. If I was going to spray it, it would have to be done by somebody really good. I like my bikes to be perfect, so it'll be going back to original. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

when i hit an oil spill and the bike flew off away from me and skidded down the road sideways the only damage was a scratched crash bung, bar end and a scratch on the exhaust.
im glad someone actually got out their cars and made sure you were ok, the dick behind me just beeped his horn, i then had to rush into college to sit an exam with a bloody sore leg and shoulder, was a pretty shitty day but at least i passed my exam ____________________ Current Bikes RVF400 - 94

Gutted for you mate. Never nice to see your bike in a state.
After I had a crash. I did the whole, if I hadn't had done this, waited five minutes or gone another way malarkey.
