Looking to buy a ps3 for my 20th sometime this month.

I intend to overall buy:

- PS3 console (40gb/80gb are the any other difference that ps2 compatability)
- Play tv
- COD 5
- 500gb hdd
- 2/2.1 speakers
- hdmi cable
- maybe wireless keyboard

would also like a nice stand to complement it all (currently on a bed side table) but that will come in time.

Considering my intentions (basic media centre type of affair) which console shall i buy, is there any difference with the 40gb/80gb/160gb apart from the hdd and ps2 compatibility?

Also is £250 a good price just for the 40gb console.

Cheers, Nick

Don't buy COD5, buy COD4, IMO it's far superior and one of the greatest shooters on PS3 to date. COD5 is just a re-skinned version, don't waste your money on it.

Also I don't think there's any different between the 40, 80 and 160 versions, but buy the biggest HD you can afford as you will fill it quite quickly. Or buy the 40GB and upgrade the HDD yourself.

Difference between them is that 80GB PS3 uses software based emulation to support PS2 games, etc, and therefore you have a smaller number of PS2 games that can be played on it, but the 40GB version has a dedicated chip onboard that allows it to be able to play most of the PS2 games, etc.

No harm buying the 80GB version because the PS3 games, of course, are far superior.

I think you're getting confused right there.

Originally there were two models. The 20gb and the 60gb. The 20gb and 60gb had the ps2 emotion engine in it, making it more expensive, but could play the majority of ps2 games with little problems. They then scraped both these models in replacement of cheaper, easier to mass produce models.
They released a newer 60gb version with only software emulation, which was later expanded to 80gb. They then replaced the 20gb with a 40gb which had no ps2 compatibility, half the usb's and no card reader on the front.

The current models are the 80gb and the 160gb (although you can still find the 40gb, it's no longer in production). Neither have ps2 compatibility or card reader.

HTH Thumbs Up
