Ferry times:

11:30 Liverpool - Douglas
19:30 Liverpool - Douglas

8:45 Douglas - Heysham
19:45 Douglas -Heysham

Thumbs Up

So we could get the 1130 there one day, then get the 1945 one back the next day. That gives us half a day or so to mess about. We'll get in to Heysham at 23:15 on the way back. Thumbs Up

If we get the late ferry from Heysham and we need somewhere to stay there is a possibility I can ask the parents for us to stay at my house? Either tent in Garden or the floor. Just a maybe though. But it would make it cheaper.

I know a few campsites and youth hostels around there, seen as I live that way.

Hmm the route for after IOM, in my opinion should be something like this.

Just so we get to go on the A686, legendary road. Video here. The corner at 4:57 always catches me out (well 2 out of 3 times)

£93 return each I think.

You can't do it for multiple people on their site. If I say it's six of us it thinks there are six people on one bike. Laughing

Ring them up when everyone's in a position to pay. Thumbs Up

If I'm still working at current place, I'll definately be able to book it off, let me know when it's all being booked and give us a shout...

Are we doing a preliminary meet sometime before to check everyone gets on~? Laughing

3-10th is good for me Thumbs Up

Why is it so expensive to go to IOM, surely it's not that exciting there unless you have a bike! Jesus christ, although i guess you get to leave liverpool which is automatically a bonus Laughing

Only one company does the ferry route (Steam Packet) and I belive the government only allows the one? So they can charge whatever they wang, just be glad your not going on TT week.

And, on the 'Viking' Boat -

This how they strap the bikes down, ferry staff do it all for you -

https://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y209/angelgrinder187/DSCF0875.jpg

If you go on the other ferry, can't remember what it's called, you just ride the bike front first into a front wheel clamp, and then they strap the handlebars to the clamp.Don't have any pictures though, sorry.

I'll post a few pics of the Isle of man (this was August 2008, check the lovely weather)

And I did Scotland by myself in May (I think -I got REALLY lucky with the weather)

One days riding in Scotland -

Both trips were great, I enjoyed Scotland more, but thats mainly due to the weather I had, and the scenery was good...

I'm bored, so going to do a list of things I would take with me on a camping trip

Tent
Sleeping Bag
Roll Mat
Small Gas cooker
Small cooking/mess tin
Bottle of Water
Assorted easy cook foods (beans, noodles etc)
Coffee/Tea (I had things like the 'cappuccino' sachets, as it comes with powdered milk in already)
Small Can of chain Lube
Travel Tissues
Headmounted Torch
Bungees
Whatever tools you will need (mainly chain adjusting ones)
Gaffa Tap
Spare clothes etc (Jumpers make good pillows)
Spare shoes.
*IMPORTANT* Sidestand puck (for sidestand use on muddy fields)
Small Hand towel (To dry off after showers - hand towel does the job fine - no need for a massive one)
Shower gel/toothbrush/toothpaste.

Of course everything can be brought easily, were not exactly navigating the Sahara, but it's damn annoying to wake up in the morning, want a coffee or a drink and find out you've not got any water or a bottle!

Would also be cool if one of us bought some sort of picnic mat, that way we can all sit outside if grass is damp, rather than hiding in tents etc.

In the evenings, sometimes there isn't a pub nearby, I would set up tent, take off panniers etc, leave the stuff and ride to the nearest shop....buy a few beers and then head back....that way, your not worried about drink driving!

I'll add as many tips or ideas I think of, and of course all this can be done completely differently, just giving everyone some ideas.

I'm hopefully changing jobs...if I don't, my company's gonna go under anyway, so I'll definately have the time booked off somehow!

So, I'm in!

Heyshams a B+B night then?!

As I mentioned, I know a camp site on the IOM that has toilets (no showers) but it is FREE, and it's about 5mins ride from Ramsey. Or if you want to pay £15 a night, we can camp behind the grandstands - where all the racing teams stay during the TT/GP

Obviously we wanna play it all by ear....the more we plan....the less fun it is (IMO)

Is there any plan for a meetup sometime, obviously we all live a fair distance away....but whatabout a central meet some bank holiday in the spring?

How many people do we reckon are going to be going?

Oh....and the other thing....there was mention of going out in Newcastle....does this mean I need to bring 'smart shoes' and somehow keep a shirt looking 'fresh' after being jammed into panniers for 7 days Laughing

Well Heysham is 20mins (at fast pace) from my house... but I am sure I could find some where 'free' to camp if you want. Or a campsite/BnB

I am pretty sure I should be up for this ride, the time isn't constricting me, just the cost. Confused

Meeting up at some point sounds good, let me know a date so I can go home (train ticket) and get my bike Thumbs Up

I know that Molly is probably coming to Santa Pod in May with some of the SE lot, so you're all welcome to come then. I shall be giving the 636 a run if it's dry and nice.

Unsure on exact numbers, looks like about 6ish at the mo, but I don't know how many will actually go. Laughing

I can't however book the ferry anytime soon... I'll see what I can do though.
