| When choosing to tavel at the speed limit in a built up area why do some drivers feel obliged to sit 6 inches off your back wheel in the hope you might go a bit faster? What do you do? |

I do the slowing down thing to be safer and leave a longer stopping distance in front of me. However then I'll occasionally nail it to get a nice distance ahead of them, if they catch up and ride on my tail then I'll do the same again only worse. Slow down even more, open a nice gap in front of me then nail it again... they soon get the idea and back off! ____________________ Previous: Aprilia Habana Retro 50cc (beauty), Yamaha SR125 (fell apart), Honda XR125 (nippy little commuter), Honda SLR650 (Geewhizz), Yamaha Diversion 900S (Smoooooth) written off courtesy of a stupid escaped horse.

I tend to carry on as normal. May brake slightly so they can see the lights, but not enough to make them suddenly need to break to avoid hitting me.
I'll also try to look that little bit harder for hazards so I can brake earlier. Even though I have to big metal cases on the back of the bike and being quite high up, I dont forget how vulnerable I am on 2 wheels. ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

I hate being tailgated, whether i'm in a car or on a bike. I don't tailgate in a car but i've noticed i do seem to travel closer to other vehicles when i'm on my bike..(urban riding)..Gotta back off abit.
Back OT: I've not been hassled too much, but when the time comes my likely reaction will be the 2 finger salute and the get back gesture. If they were to get silly billy close then god help the poor sods, probably end up getting off and a tap on the window. Not the right thing to do, but some people have to be told(Done it before)

It's amazing the shock of horror on a cagers face when you light the brake light up while they are sitting a few feet off your back end ... he just managed to keep control and save himself going into the central reservation.
Feck them ... slow down |

I tend to stay 30 in a 30 and if someones up my arse they can wait to be fair.
There is the over taking option for them - if they do the red mist falls and fly past them once the speed limit rises |

I used to let really aggressive people overtake. It's amazing how many people make a stupid dangerous overtake then only travel about 5mph faster than you.
Now I only let them past if I know theres a speed camera ahead |

While they are putting the cars in less danger, the headlights being higher means they can easily blind drivers in their mirrors and thus look quite intimidating. |
Oh Yes. It makes me cringe I can not help think about how little chance they have of avoiding anything. Sorry but it is often L plate ped bois in a 30 zone, just stupid bad riding. |
Yeah, it seems to be.
I've seen bikes literaly 1-3 metres behind cars at 30-40mph.
It's like, if that car has to stop for a cat or something, you've had it: no way you'll stop in time.
I just don't understand tailgating myself. It increases your danger, but offers no gain whatsoever. I mean, if you were to time it, you might get where you're going 0.01 second quicker.
Sometimes when I'm sticking to the limit and I'm being tailed, I give indication that I'm happy to be overtaken - move to the side of the road etc - and then cars don't even overtake. That pisses me off: it's like, you're putting my life in danger for no reason whatsoever.
I find cars are generally crap at overtaking - they linger for ages, and then they squeeze passed, leaving little space for you, even if the road is completely clear.
I can kinda get why cars are okay to tail bikes - after all, they'll be alright - but when I see a car tailgating a lorry, etc, I just feel completely astounded with some peoples daft driving. Sometimes the traffic is really light, and yet still some people tailgate, it's just mindless. ____________________ no regrets, no retreat, no apology.

Stamp on the rear brake and lock the rear up
Do a massive killswitch backfire when they're really close
Fly off after an NSL sign
Wobble around in the lane and make it look like the bike is unstable
Turn around and give them a big glare |
