Recently bought a moped which I thought was 50cc turns out its 49cc I don't know much about mopeds if I'm honest I just wanted one to get about and its cheaper to run than a car. I need to get a new battery for it does it matter what battery it is? (obviously I know its gotta be a moped battery lol)

also how long does it usually take for the log book to arrive..?
also how much ROUGHLY is a CBT?

I heard that if I have a provisional I can still ride it with L plates on is this true?

Erm bikes that are listed in cc aren't always the cc they are advertised.

For example my CBR600F is 599cc, a fireblade a 1000cc bike for a long time was 998cc etc..

Even my XRV750 africa is only 747cc

Thus your 50cc is close enough to be considered to be 50cc.

You just need an automotive battery that fits into the space where your battery fits currently , anything 12volts with decent amp hours on it should do , it should be written on the top of the battery the amp hours .

https://www.mdsbattery.co.uk/defaultuk.asp

should be able to indentify what battery you require by the model of your ped.

Log books are SUPPOSED to take 2-6 weeks but I've been waiting 2 months for mine , though a month ago I sent a V62 form for a replacement.

CBTs are roughly £90-£120 depending on where you take it, oop north is obviously cheaper.

I'm not sure if the historical moped entitlement still exists anymore , there is an old law that says if you have a full car licence gained before 2000 or maybe earlier you can ride a 50cc moped without L plates.

Thanx for the info as I'm a novice I was wondering as it needs a new battery was the reason for the moped being so loud!?
I know nothing about bikes tbh, I only got it because it was so damn cheap!

I am guessing it is two stroke many 50cc mopeds are 2 stroke

have a look does the exhaust system look like this?

https://www.scooterwest.com/files/items/000/000/000/009/64/ZXyamaha.jpg

if it does then its two stroke, check for holes around the expansion chamber it will run like a dog if there are holes around it, also if it is 2 stroke you will need 2 stroke oil either mixed in with the petrol or in a separate tank, the instructors on a CBT should be able to show you.

Why ? a CBT will allow you to ride upto 125cc or 11.6kw (about 9-10bhp) and thus it will be legal to ride but it won't be classed as a moped. I think the 30mph limit on mopeds is dangerous anyway.

Meh thats 1cc less, in France and Spain they kept selling me 'pints' as they called it, ah c'est Anglais? , you want une pint, oui oui I got a 500ml 'pint of beer' 68ml short of a pint!.

Same in Spain they do it by the litre not the pint..

Bad

have a look at this link

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two-stroke_engine

the picture shows the cycle of a 2 stroke engine , you get back pressure from the expansion chamber that pushes the green (the petrol and 2 stroke oil) back into the cylinder.

If there is a hole in the exhaust then the pressure waves that push back are not as effective as normal as some of the petrol vapour and air can escape via holes.

What do you mean by "loud noise"?

That's a little tio vague - i.e. a loud noise could be a tyre rubbing, or the top box rattling, see what I mean? You need to point out what type of noise you have in mind.

I didnt post in here because i thought someone more clever would of thought and posted it and saved me the trouble Laughing

From what your saying, from the previous owner, the loud smell and fuely smells id say that you dont have a exhaust gasket, which some bikes have on the port.

Anyone else agree? Wink

Yep, no expert, but i would say a leaking exhaust caused by damaged or no gasket would make any bike sound like a bag of spanners. Smile

i know when the exhaust blew in my car it sounded like a tractor in a very ill state of repair

CBTs vary round the country
Range from 80 up to 120 or so
Ask at your local main dealers, see who they use. Get a recommendation either off here or locally.
