My bike is on ebay, and ive said the Buy it Now price in the listing.

Ive had a couple of offers under what i want but have recieved a message from somone in the Netherlands who has 3 positive feedbacks stating he is willing to pay the BIN price with cash on friday morning when he is in the area.

Ive spoken to him on the phone and he said he knows what to do regarding the DVLA etc.

Ill be keeping it on ebay incase of a no show but does this sound legit?

I know when a friend sold his B1h the buyer took it to Poland?

Thanks

Adam

I've had multiple offers from Americans on my Africa Twin , and also from quite a few Germans, their mates have never turned up though with cash or otherwise....

So just be wary and don't be signing over anything unless the cash is in your hand.

as with anything it's a possiblity....but you shouldn't leave it on ebay - as if he comes over to see it and someone else choce buy it now then you are contacrted to sell the bike to the ebay buyer - ask for a £100 non refundable deposit off the POTENTIAL buyer - and then take it off ebay if he pays. you should then know it's legit and even if its not - you are £100 up.
maybe dont give him our address, tell him you'll meet him somewhere and he can follow you back to your house if he wishes - or tell him your address and ask a friend to store the bike for you ... could be a potential thief looking for addresses.

Heh I wouldn't put that much faith in the BIN thing on ebay either, in that there are tons of tyre kickers out there who have no intention of buying your bike.

What is worse is that you get people who BIN ask for an address don't want it and then by complete coincidence you get a break in with somebody attempting to steal it.

I get round this by using the address of the first house on my road and parking it on some scrub land there so they don't know where it actually is stored.

The BIN is no longer on ebay as i didnt have a reserve and people have bidded. I will ask for a deposit acutally, the bike is fairly secure locked up in the garage, and our nosey neighboughs are always in.

One other thing to be carefull of.

Some people have taken to transfering cash from their bank account to the sellers. Often this will be done in front of you via your internet connection and online banking, so you think great they have the funds and, Oh yes its now in my account... You then release the bike to them and off they go. You then find when you attempt to withdraw the cash, that the money has been frozen by the banks as the funds that were paying you, are not cleared, and are often from a stolen cheque book.

If they want to make payment via this means, check with your own bank that the funds are cleared and will not be withheld.

The bastards out there are getting smarter by the day... Twisted Evil

And with cash look out for fake bank notes too....

A BIG wad of £20s is quite hard to check actually.

Arrrr Hello Saaaaar,

My name is George, I would like to purchase your bike but in order to do this I need to transfer 10 thousand ugandan dollers into your bank account which will allow you to take your monies and put the rest back into my Australian bank account.

All I need is your full address, full name, bank details (Sort code / Account code, chip and pin number etc), date of birth, telephone number, mums maiden name, first pets name and the age you first had a naughty dream, then my genuine monies tranfer can take place. Honest. Mr. Green

I would personally request a deposit up front, then meet them at a mutual location local to you and then assuming they turn up take them to see the bike.

I tend not to trust anybody when buying / selling and monies are involved! Hope it all works out ok though! Thumbs Up

Because he's claiming he'll come in person with cash I'd be less suspicious.

I already know a guy from the Netherlands who has bought a bike over here purely because he saved an absolute packet due to the weak pound.

When dealing in cashm you could cover yourself by getting one of them fake money detector pens. I got one for free from my local offy by asking very nicely.

The other alternative is to accept the cash and go and pay it in at the bank before handing over the keys.

Once it's been accepted by the bank and keyed into your account, fake or not it's not your problem anymore. The banks will have much better forged note checking anyway.

Oh, and I'd have a mate round as backup just in case anyone plays silly buggers Smile

I successfully sold my Lotus to a chap from somewhere on the continent (I forget where now).
Only trouble I has was a feeling of guilt for exporting an English treasure :p

Adam,

Sad to see the bike go - it only feels like yesterday when both of us bought our ZXR250s!

Just to let you know, with the falling pound and strong euro, continental buyers are viewing these bikes as a bargain! That's the other side of the coin, and I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in Bike or PB. It would hardly be surprising if he's actually a dealer on the hunt for a bargain.

So, Thumbs Up to such a bad economy.

AT least you're doing well enough to sell the bike in such a bad ecomonic recession! I did and feel glad that I got the full asking price for my 6R, but with the snow being so bad, i've neglected to follow up on my afterales which I promised (sending the spares which I have no use for now!)

Yeah, there was stuff in PB about dealers selling loads of UK bikes to EU dealers. Thumbs Up

I would say it sounds relatively legit. This seems to be becoming more and more common over the past year or so. Thumbs Up

Always have cash paid into a bank in front of you. Fake notes then are not your problem.

My last 3 bikes were sold to Polish guys.

They buy aload on eBay, fill their Van/Truck with as many bikes they can fit into them, then they take them home.

First time I was suspicious, now I expect to hear from the next Polish guy everytime I sell something, they are fine to deal with, anbd they are useless at haggling, the last one couldn't say it properly, and was trying to haggle using his mobile phone, typing in "1,900?"

Made me chuckle, but if you say no, they can't really haggle well....can be handy!

I'd say, be a bit cautious as with any sale, but I wouldn't worry any more than ususal!

Where I used to work we had a Polish bloke who used to export transits, LDV trucks etc. to Poland, and he'd stop by at the shop on the way to the docks with the vans to fill them up. I suppose if you're paying by the container you might as well use it properly.

He was mental for CBR600Fs, particularly the F2, apparently he couldn't shift them fast enough, I think we dried up the entire supply of CBRFs in Oxfordshire within about a month Laughing

Weak pound has its advantages. I think NL have some quite high vehicle related taxes, making cheap secondhand bikes over here worthwhile now.
I suspect that the French might start buying some of our bikes too, if they still have that 100bhp limit over there. They'll wait longer though, being French.

I have to agree about the address part and having people with you. A mate of mine was selling his bike, the guy made and appointment to view it then never showed. When my friend left to go to work the dude showed up and tried to steal the bike, but me buddy had removed the plugs so it didn't start. Someone across the street called the cops so it was all ok. You have to be really careful.
Cheers

He has just loaded it in the back of the van after giving me £3100 in £50 notes. Look real.

He came on time and didnt even try to haggle. Took exhaust off and loaded it in, strapped it up and on his way to the next bike!

Worry over, or at least when i pay the cash in!

It is difficult to register and imported bike in France as you need proof that it is to French spec (including the 100hp limit).

All the best
