It fills in the gap which is formed between parts ie for the Africa Twin the downpipes lead to a collector box which comes out at 43mm , I put a gasket round that bit to put a 46mm link pipe and then another on the other end to put a 48mm end can on..

In effect it fills in the gap between components to hold in liquid or gas.

They basically act like seal between the pipes and the can , which prevents leakage between the pipes and the can.

Why wouldnt they be?
First vehicle and stuff how would they know what a gasket was? More to the point why would they have needed to know before hand?
We all start somewhere.

I didnt know what fairing was 2 years ago. Smile

If you could post the model and make of moped you've got we may be able to help you find one online so you can either try fitting it yourself or take it to a bike shop with the gasket and get it fitted, will be cheaper that way.

Has been said its basically a peice of material that seals too surfaces together when its squished together,

Kind of like a car door seal, the seal when the door slams on it changes shape to make a tight seal as it squishes.
