BBC iPlayer Traffic cop episode

Just watched that... And my God if I was a traffic cop I'd be so pissed off, can't chase people, kid you have seen over and over getting the same sentence every time.

Nice to know they won't chase a motorcyclists who refuses to stop Wink

Yeah and it's nice to know that everyone who saw this episode broadcast also knows which will put more pressure to get it changed. Why do you think the BBC includes certain comments from the Traffic Police in the final edit?

Depends how you look at it, yeah it's nice to know that they'll just go and wait for you at home but it also means that guy who just stole your bike can get away with it.

Why shouldn't they chase them, if you're stupid enough to try and get away but can't manage it without riding into a solid object then it's your own fault.

Personally I think they should be able to chase them, as point out if my bike was stolen I'd want the police to do everything they can to get it back.

It also pointed out that it is some ones choice in the control room wether or not to pursue the vehicle, so given the right time I'd imagine they would pursue them, hopefully more often from public pressure. Although I am sure they also get put under more pressure from the public that don't see the bigger picture and don't want these high risk pursuits.

I know what my comment insinuates; but I'd pull over if the police where after me, much more likely to get a lesser penalty than making them go round to your house and winding them up for not stopping.

The problem is when they ride it into a nice squidgy pedestrian.

One thing about this episode was one of the guys from the dodgy-clutch-pursuit saying "you soon realise that everyone is lying to you unless they can prove they're telling the truth and if you take that approach you cannot go far wrong."

In some contexts it makes sense but in others it is slightly worrying.

Edit: Glad to see the cop at the end thinks the 1 year driving ban for a 13 year old is as pointless as the rest of us do Razz

As for police pursuing bikes, they do, if they can get the resources in on time, ie, the chopper and police bikes. I know west mercia have a hyabusa and a fireblade, both unmarked, you get caught by them, your stuffed.

Some forces will, some forces won't. If you think about it, why persue. There's no way to stop a bike, you can't TPAC it, you can't stinger a bike, you can't really ram it off the road. So you either follow it until it runs out of petrol or pressure them until they fall off and potentially kill themselves.

Helicopter is probably the best way to deal with a bike failing to stop, but they're very very expensive to run.

I wondered that but we figured it meant that he can't start driving until he was 18 rather than 17?

I don't think that is the case.

I don't believe it works like that. I believe the ban starts at 13. But if you think about it, he'll still have to declare that to insurance etc.

When you get in trouble with police and you don't have a licence, you're issued with a driver number. And points etc go on the number, rather than your non existant licence.

When my brother got banned at 16 for a year for no insurance etc,
it started as soon as he was convicted, was kind of a pointless ban Laughing did put his insurance up alot tho, especially being a new driver.

and i remember seeing this on tv before and the bikes just gone haha.

You think he's gonna bother with a licence and insurance?

Yeah he really did just disappear. No chance of catching him really.

Was funny how he just fully turned around and stared, like "right i'll be going then".

Americans have it right
Not sure what police show it was on, Road Wars maybe
Biker taking the piss, does 2 u-turns to try and escape the police
he gets rammed and knocked off before he does a 3rd one

Can see why they dont persue, and if someone innocent gets injured or worse then it isnt good. But them knowing that in most cases throw off the helmet and pin it and the police will back off isnt productive either.

Bans and stuff for drivers with no insurance or license wont make any bit of difference in a large number of cases. They are driving without a license or insurance, do they really think increased insurance prices and a lack of license will stop them driving?

Fines and jail time is the way forward, 3 strikes and you are straight to jail do not pass go and no u dont have a get out of jail free card

Pay the fine or do the time. Have it so fines get paid off as so much per day / week when in prison. So a week in prison pays off say 100 quid.

Ramming happens here though too , in that I remember a story when I was living in the South West , where a big robbery went off and the robber managed to steal some bonds worth a helluva lot of money and gold on his bike..

He made his escape on bike , but was rammed off the bike by a cop car broke his pevis and spine in several places too.

not chasing vehicles will probably have the side effect of them being used as escape vehicles.

the bans come into force when they are legal to drive not at 13, case and point is it happened to Chris Walker, he got banned at a young age, got his license only for it to be taken off him straight away as he had a ban in place but didnt realise.

On a similar theme to Itchy, I still prefer the rough justice method of policing when it comes to such acts..

Well as said before some forces do follow some don't. In the the town where i live the police have got some dr400's because of the amount of motorcross bikes that get rode around the town.

Here's a link to a chase that happened in my town on youtube. (4 parts)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRJ0n7rIykg

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gn6Wo4aR6Io

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDlJyQ3jNdU

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P05Io_2rKv0

At one point he stop's phone's his friends on his mobile, rides around town then goes back for more petrol, all caught on camera from the helicopter Mr. Green
