BMW helmets

I am thinking on getting a bmw helmet has anyone worn one,what they like for fogging,noise etc .I want the one with the sun visor into it the system 5 I think it is.

Noise won't be an issue with earplugs, some of the visors are double glazed depending on the model and take a bit to fog up.

I tried there Carbon Fibre one but it didn't fit properly, but it was incredibly light. . . . . and expensive!

A workmate has a system 5 and swears by it, quiet and doesn't seem to have issues with the visor fogging.

From what I'm lead to believe, I think the BMW helmets are made by Schuberth and are therefore very quiet.

However, I've just had a look at the Motorad website and the System 5 helmet doesn't have a Pinlock visor. If this is the same coated visor that Schuberth used to use, then it's good to a point.

I've owned a Schuberth S1 for 18 months now and the coated visor wasn't up to the job much after 6 months.

Rain repellency - it works well when clean but obviously the longer you ride the dirtier it'll get and as it gets scratched it stops dispelling the water.

Misting - the inside of the visor is also coated and this will eventually reach saturation point and cease to be effective. If you ride for more than 30 minutes in heavy rain you'll reach the saturation point.

I eventually binned the OEM visor and bought the Pinlock upgrade £80, for new uncoated visor and insert combination.

The new Schuberth C3 comes with this pinlock visor as standard now, but cost £100 more than the System 5, but shop around as our local Triumph dealer (Cheltenham) had a ridiculous £100 off offer on recently.

But the Schuberth C2 (their previous model is even cheaper now everyone "wants" the C3), but that has the same coated visor and I don't think a Pinlock upgrade is available.

Oh and the sun visors are very good, though the 80% tint is a bit too dark for use on a British winter morning. But for some models there is an optional 60% tint inner visor which is better.

I used to have a system 5 helmet. I had a fair old crash in it so got rid. It was a quality helmet - very comfotable plush lining, however I had a few grumbles.

Visor fogging was an issue from the off - you can buy a "double glazed" visor (£££), or I'd guess a fog city insert would work.

The visor leaked in heavy rain - apparently a common issue with system 5 helmets which is solved by purchasing the double glazed visor (so said internet forum wisdom, I recall). I was contemplating this purchase before my crash.

The shell was very large, and looked it whilst I was wearing the helmet! I also had to buy a size "small", whereas every other helmet I've had has been a "medium". Apparently, although the helmets are made by Schuberth, the head shape is different for BMW helmets.

After crashing in mine, I went back to cheaper full-face lids. To be honest I don't miss the System 5.
