In December I bought a ZXR750 J1 off these forums. It took a little while to get used to, but when I did I really enjoyed the bike.

I have recently fitted new chain and sprockets and served the bike, with a plan to do the vavle clearances and carb balance.

On my way to work a couple of weeks ago, I woman pulled out (shot out, would be more appropriate) in front of me, causing me to take evasive action. I clipped the side of the car and slid down the road/embankment for 30+ metres.

I managed to ride the bike back to work without any issues and give it a bit of a shake down.

Here are the pictures:

Damage (aside from the already dodgy fairing)
Left mirror
Left indicators
Leaking radiator
clutch leaver (cosmetic)
gear leaver (loose)

I have decided to buy the bike back off the insurance company and wondered what I should do now. Either keep it and repair it. Sell it and get something else with the pay out.

The bike has done about 40K (not sure how long these engines last, tax is due at the end of the month and MOT in April

if that is the only damage, it would be cheap as hell to fix using ebay and second hand spares. only need a mirror, indicator and radiator, and maybe a new gear change lever or link - but probably not.
especially when you consider the money you've just spent on it anyway.
fix it up and keep it as a second bike for going to work - when you're most likely for it to happen again. then put your insurance money down for a new bike - maybe from a dealer with some finance or a loan and keep that one for sunny ride outs.

unless oyu have a car for work and crap weather ... when in that case you could fix it up and sell it as a battered but working bike and still make some money on it, (from buying the bike [from insurance company not originally] plus the repairs then a sale)

Haha that's ridiculous, why would you dress up (I mean degrade/ dress down Razz) a honda like that?

For the record I don't believe it's a Honda.

Left mirror
Left indicators
Leaking radiator
clutch leaver (cosmetic)
gear leaver (loose)

Mirror £15 tops for a pattern part or £20 for both sides
Indicator £5-10
Radiator replace it £50-90
Clutch lever £4
Gear lever , depends whats wrong with it probably the pinch bolt £5-10.
Painting it is a bit of a hmm I reckon:

£15 for some sand paper and a fair few hours sanding it down
£5 for masking tape
£50 for some rattle cans.

In that if you repair it you'll learn plenty of mechanics skills, shame you can't do anything about the Cat C or D the insurers will have put on it though.

Thats because its a ZXR in French colours?

Trashed Honda means beat them in racing not a trashed and crashed bike.

I'm concerned as to what state it will come back in from the insurance company. With a coolant leak and some -5 temperatures. Plus if its been outside the chain and sprockets of which I'd just bought might not be in great condition.

The full assessment will have to wait until Friday, most likely will keep it, but I plan on going touring again this summer, and i'm not sure this is the beast to do it on.
