My girlfriends pretty gutted right now, she was rammed into by some mad fu** on the road last Tuesday.
She got this car from a good friend of hers who said she wouldn't need to start paying until the end of Feb which is when the MOT is. She had been waiting so long to get a car and this was perfect for her. Anyways, i'd love to help her out here but im thinking this might be more cost that its worth...

Its a Rover 214, small hatch back thing. I've replaced the headlight as the original was smashed badly. Every panel on the drivers side has been scratched and bumped in someway. The front side panel where the bonnet is has taken the brunt and i cant open the driver door now as its been bent inwards.
Im not going to attemped beating it out myself, i've never done it before, is this kind of work going to cost more than the car?! I estimate it's worth 400 to 500 pounds, the MOT is Thursday and i know she needs a new tyre. Arrrgh what a nightmare. Evil or Very Mad Thumbs Down

As long as its legal who cares???
RTA concerning 'Construction and Use' covers state of body work and I think locks etc must work properly.

FYI I now fieng injury for every accident I would be involved in (If not my fault)
The police must attend and anyone doin' a runer is in more trouble then.
Police statements and breath tests hold more weight in a claim than all that old..... "he said that she said that he did and she would" tosh.

Police are cnuts but usefull for some things.

She cares, because the car was in a decent condition until now and i dont know who likes getting into the driving seat from the opposite side everyday.
The second bit has confused me, the other driver didn't stop.

Go get yourself a decent Torq and socket set and just replace the panels .

I fixed a badly dinged mercedes last week, the dents were just far too big to fix with filler (£4 gets you a CD sized tin of filler which fills about 1.4 inches deep).

So I just took the panel off found one surprisingly cheap on ebay bought it drove out to get it and bolted the new one on, it was problematic though in that you had to take off other panels to replace it.

Thats if the panels are bolt on and not welded on - they are welded on most semi modern cars.

Killa, if she can't get in and out of the drivers side of the car its scrap. It is currently not roadworthy. If she has another accident she'll be trapped in the car.

The car would fail an MOT as it is. Scrap the car and buy something else and put in a claim from the MIB or whatever its called.

https://www.mib.org.uk

That's an absolute shitter of a situation she's in, luckily it's not a mega expensive car. Not only is there the pain of paying for this knackered car, but the ball ache of having to start looking for another one all over again. I'd definitely get her to ring the police if she hasn't already and see if they have any CCTV footage.

If the door won't open it's unlikely it'll pass an MOT, locks aren't tested on the MOT but if a door won't open it is dangerous as Marjay said. Is there chassis damage?

You could scrap it, or if you have room somewhere you could try and break it for spares to get some money back. Does anyone know if we still have to pay to scrap a vehicle?
