I was disappointed today to find that Cabergs don't fit my head properly, small is too small and it sits too high, medium fits not bad now but I imagine that the padding will compress and in 6 months will be basically worthless.

I was also disapointed to find yesterday that AGVs don't fit me either, same story

the best fitting helmet was a £50 cheapo one whose brand I can't remember, I know that fit is one of the most important things when choosing a helmet but I'm not sure I trust a £50 helmet to actually work. The padding felt a bit rubbish, I'd like to spend more and have one that feels nice as well as fits well

Does anyone have any recommendations/experience? Are cheapo ones alright? Thanks

A cheap helmet, in a crash, will perform just as well as an expensive helmet.

The extra price you pay for expensive helmets is for the paint scheme, quality of padding, soundproofing etc.

I would say the safeist helmet is the one that fits properly no matter how cheap it is.

So ignore the price tags really and get a good fitting one.

Sorted...

Seriously though, you can pay £150 for a pair of trainers that have a 'name' or pay £10-20 for a pair that are anonymous

All helmets are required to reach the same standard to be sold for road use.

My £30 Nitro scored a 4 out of a possible 5 on the sharp scale, some very expensive helmets had difficulty scoring 2.

Interesting about the two above posts.
I couldnt trust a lower brand helmet - No matter the fit.
The way we would test them at work - left by older owners who brough lids was shocking.
Now these could of been 'dropped' before we decided to kick the cr*p out of them but the RST lid bounced down the stairs and split in two.
The AGV S4 - Claw hammer in the head - first attempt Shocked
I know people have different perceptions of helmets. But since seeing what the entry level Arai can withstand I went with that Thumbs Up

Not everyone has an Arai head - But if you do they are really comfortable - Just slightly noisy which is a problem we used to hear all the time.

I like the look of Shoei helmets but it feels like im being given a brutal facelift as I take it off Laughing

Hi

Trouble is that a rigid shell is not necessarily what you want in the event of an impact, and may make the results rather worse. The helmets job is to absorb the impact, not to try and beat the tarmac into submission.

I have tried to break an old polycarbonate helmet with a hammer before (local dealer had some damaged stock ones nailed to some wood for people to try this with, with anyone who managed to break one winning a new helmet - he never had to give out a prize). Smashed hell out of it but didn't manage to even put a minor crack in it.

All the best

Keith
