If you are planning on going for a hoon, how long would you let your tyres warm up for before you knee down if your hanging off or peg down if your not?

Bike can be anything really, take a sv as an example.
Tyres are in good condition, say 1000miles old and good road tyres.
Average summers day, not boiling just normal.
Hooning on twisty B roads.

Im likely the most paranoid rider when it comes to tyres gripping, although at the moment i have good reason because the bt45 on the back of the XJ is new.

I tend to give it a couple of miles before really going for it, to allow the engine to full warm up and the tyres to get some heat into them, even then though im slow Very Happy

As soon as the engine's warm is a good general guide, although this might not be the case if you're sat in traffic all morning or ride like a nan.

That depends on who your nan is Laughing

My Nana ride like a maniac, and shows the power rangers a thing or 2

Just remember its not just about the tyre's. You have to consider things like road surface as well.
Tyre can be a sticky as super glue, but if that road is covered in grit..... Might as well be riding on ice.

10 minutes of general riding. Which is usually how long it takes the motor to properly warm anyway.

I will give the tires a good 5 - 10 mins before I try anything special, remembering to warm the edges too and not just the centre.

But I cant get my knee down so whats the difference... Laughing

Doesn't matter too much which bits you warm to be fair. It'll take longer if you don't warm the edges, but they will warm up eventually. If you hooned down the motorway for 15 minutes you'd be able to get your kneedown at the first roundabout you came to.

A couple of miles on a good day. I probably take longer to warm up than the bike does. It's a few miles to reach the 'better' roads anyway.

5 mins moderate pace once i get out of town... stop start traffic doesn't tend to do much for the tyres. But i think my limiting factor would be how quick the engine gets up to temp, since it takes about 5 or so mins to get to 80 deg anyway.

That said, how many of you actually stretch before going on a hoon? As in do similar stretches before you do a workout session? I found after doing 5 mins of general stretching, I felt less lethargic and more alert, so there's another factor you need to consider - it's not just about your tyres, road conditions, condition of bikes etc, it's also about yer physical fitness.

Err i meant AFTER suiting up Cool , with your arse facing your housemate's bird too! Yeah, i usually stretch before i get into my leathers too, but stretching once your in leathers allows everything seat in properly such as armour, back protector etc. If you cant touch your toes then you're either:

a) Fat
b) Unfit
c) A combination of both

But do some exercise to resolve it and you can do a 100 mile burn without feeling jaded or weary; at least you'll be a WHOLE lot more alert!

Whichever way you look at it, since i started exercising, i've been more on the ball when riding.

On the NC29 with the SuperCorsa Pro's. They were warm enough as soon as I got off my estate.

Funnily enough, the bridgestones on my pit bike warm up pretty quick, And they are just B02 scooter tyres. Cant rid the fanny lines for the life of me though!

i can actually touch the floor with flat palms without leathers on, its just that with these leathers being new im in the uncomfortable process of bedding them in and bending down or any exessive movement for that matter is a no no Sick

I am not fat, and even in my height of fitness (i.e. being able to do 70+miles a day on my pedal bike one after the other and being able to swim 1km without thinking about it) I have never been to touch my toes Mad

It takes me about 10 minutes to get to my favourite roads, the tyres (Avon Azaro's) are grippy enough for serious hooning after that ten minutes.
