Hi all!

I have been contemplating buying a new lid for a while now and would like some opinions.

I really need a new one because I have had my current lid a couple of years and is looking a bit the worse for wear. it looks something like this:
https://thevisorshop.com/acatalog/DAYTONABLUE.jpg

However, both of the top vents have broken and it is fairly scratched up. Now, ideally I am looking for a helmet that doesn't look typically like an Arai or Shoei, and I was thinking something along the lines of this:

https://www.bike-shop.com/html/clothing/uvexhelmet.htm

This particular bike shop has now closed down and the lids are no longer available. I expect I could get one if I tried hard enough though. I do like the look of this lid, although a review in MCN this week complained of poor build quality.
Another possibility is this:
https://thevisorshop.com/acatalog/ECESBANDITBLACKLARGE.jpg

Obviously this is similar in design to a couple of the lids in the Craft range;
https://www.customlids.co.uk/helmets/craft/rx8/RX8-black.jpg

I just really wanted to know has anyone on here got a lid of this type or similar, and if so how do you like it? Are they bad for wind noise or visor fogging? What do you think of the build quality? Do you think they are practical?

I think that personally, the Uvex wins it on looks, but I'm not too sure on the availability of visors and wether there would be somewhere nearby to try one on!

Obviously I may just stick with another Roof, mainly because I know they fit (Although I am leaning towards plain black colour). I know I can get one cheap because I don't have to try it on (IE online).

Thoughts please? Smile

Looks like you're after a black helmet! I do not like the first one as I think it looks a little like an alien. To be honest I'm unsure about all of them.

Just did the helmet thing myself today, had to travel round london to find it. I now know that shoei, arai and virtually any other make do not fit me, in fact only one type of nitro fits perfectly.

The moral to this is, "find one that fits". I know it's all so boring but unfortunatly the truth.

Ha, count yourself lucky. So far only Shoei and Arai seem to be decent fits on me... a bit more expensive than nitro unfortunately Sad.

I have a Craft RX7, looks exactly like the RX8 you have shown there. Not sure what the differences are.
I love the style of this kind of lid, but my particular helmet suffers with a bit of wind noise although it seemed fine at first. The visor also suffers with visor misting especially when its cold out. Both the noise and the misting are at least partially cured with the use of a dark visor though (perhaps slightly smaller, tighter fit cures the noise, and the dark coating helps prevent misting, I dunno Confused ).
Can't really comment on the fit of the other helmets but people often say that craft helmets suit people with 'square' heads, seems to suit mine just fine.
The Simpson lid looks best IMO Thumbs Up , but I have no idea how comfy they are.

From what I gather from nosing around, the Simpson lid lets in water when it rains Confused

I might go for the Roof again. All of these "Streetfighter" type lids seem to have permanently open vents and will be noisy/let in water. Sad

I might still try for the Uvex lid... Wink

Nope, the vents on my RX7 can be closed, the older RX5 had permanently open vents though.

Have you considered something like Schuberth? They seem to get very good reviews, not sure how much you want to spend though they can be expensive.

There's a couple here to give you some ideas as to their range, I'm fairly sure they do more lids than is here though.

https://www.customlids.co.uk/helmets.htm

Also Momo do helmets now, they look a bit different too.

Isn't the Roof one the old helmet Kev used to have when he had his last accident?

On impact it ended up braking his nose.

Yeah I've got the helmet guide and it says wether or not the lids are ACU or whatever, but they contain no Craft lids at all Sad

I have looked on customlids and thevisorshop too.

All I want is a 'Darth Vader' lid with good vents and ACU gold marking? is that too much to ask? Laughing Smile

Kev has told me that story about his nose many a time, but my nose is further away from the chinpiece than his was apparently.

Bear in mind sv_cath, that I have had a Roof helmet for two years now... and I also live in Reading and agreed to go riding with you some time ... Wink

Anyway. I have settled on a couple of possible lids:
https://www.crafthelmetshop.co.uk/product_images/RXX-Black-halb-EXP-GA1.8-W9.jpg
or:

Whaddya reckon people? Very Happy

I say, buy the RX7. Thumbs Up (but then I would, wouldn't I)
Whichever you buy make sure you get the shiny black one, I have the matt black but shiny black is definitley more Darth like. Very Happy (oh and a nice black visor is an absolute must, whichever you buy, obviously).

Just my Penny Coin Penny Coin but those craft lids etc, look stupid when riding sports bikes, they only really look decent if your on a streetfighter/naked bike etc.

That's just my opinion though.

Yeah thanks Yams, who cares what you think. Razz

Since when does the bike you are riding dictate what lid you should be wearing. I have seen plenty of people riding red bikes with blue helmets on for example. (hehe, but these aren't pure-bred tarts are they). Wink

Craft lids look cool Cool , and if I smash my bike up and need to st fighter it then apparently I already have the lid to suit my bikes new look Thumbs Up .

Hey, I'm just riding a scooter, but I think any of these helmets will look neat. Then again, a helmet with a solar powered electric fan would be more practical in Taipei's heat. Razz

Speaking of which, does anything like that actually exist? Sounds nutty, but hey, why not?

Rode around in a bandit for a while, nice lid but with a tendency to be noisy and had a somewhat restricted view. Always liked the look of the Roof lids and heard good things about them in terms of lasting well, but sadly they don't fit me Crying or Very sad

The only really comfortable lids I've found recently tend to be Shoei. Now I just need to get around to finding some tinted visors, at least it should be fairly easy with a mainstream brand Rolling Eyes
