Approximately how much will a service set you back?

Im getting my bike Moted & serviced on Monday , and just wondered what it is likely to cost in the current climate.

On my RS about a year ago it cost 200+ including new tyres.

And this is the first time im getting this bike serviced since i brought it in August + be riding all though the winter.

Im hoping it will be a bit cheaper than that.

I learnt how to do mine, but then again its a big single so not as hard as an inline 4 i wouldnt have thought. Last time i got mine serviced it cost about £150 inc parts.

£35 an hour is good, i got mine serviced last summer (June i think) at Seastars and they charge £45p/h + VAT (and still do).

thats why i normally go there as thought £35 is very good tbh.

I brought new front and rear pads to have put on , so they only need to hopefully do the basic stuff.

Learning how to do it yourself will definitely save you a fortune. Have a look in your local section and see if there's anyone in there who will teach you how.

Had my CBR400 serviced this week. Cost me £120.
They renewed the brake fluid, plugs, cleaned air filter and carbs, cleaned calipers, oil and filter and an overall check.

JC motorcycles Plymouth.
May be worth it if you can get there.
Only charge £18ph.

Unfortunately as they are so cheap and popular they tend to be quite busy so you may have to wait a week or so before they could fit you in.

I would usually do it myself, but the bike was in for a fault I couldn't figure out so had it all done at the same time.

I was a little pissed when /i took my bike for a service - 150 - and it came back with lots of pointless parts greased up, i.e the lock for the toolkit/battery, the pillion pegs etc. I didn't pay 50ph labour for shit like that, which I could do myself,.

It also pisses me off when they add a disposal charge for oil changes. That's the equivelent of me charging for them 'hiring' my bike for two hours: taking the piss.

The best thing to do is to do a lot of the work yourself - brake fluid changes, oil changes, etc, which are all easy - and then point out that it doesn't need to be done.

That way you won't get whacked with extortionate labour costs for shit you could get your nephew or niece to do in exchange for sweets.

So you're complaining that for your £50 an hour they service your bike properly?
Greasing hinges is an important part of servicing, as I found today when I had to spend an hour cleaning and unsticking a bonnet catch on a car. If you don't want to pay to have your bike serviced, do it yourself.

Also remember that the mechanic may well stop for 10 minutes during that hour to have a cup of tea and a chat with someone, same as you likely take breaks in your job. I highly recommend DIY.

At least they were honest to break down the bill so you could see what you had payed for.

I guess you don't also realise that if you take a car/bike in for a tyre change they also charge for tyre disposal as well.....

Something that has been forced on them, by the money grabbing governments.

i'm far too paranoid to let anyone touch my bike unless i'm there so do most stuff myself.

just get a haynes, tool kit and a few bits which will probably cost the same as your basic service and then save save save

also you know the jobs done right unlike when they let some kiddie trainee do a basic job and they forget to out an axle washer or something back on

well tbh when a bike is 15-20 years old getting it through MOT's without failing is suprising.

And yeah paying people £50 an hour to grease hinges is OTT. Tis good to know the right people but if you paid it it's only your own decision.

Costs of services do range, but in my local garage the pricings are

Minor service £120
Major service £310

That is for faired bikes, unfaired bikes are a little cheaper.
