My dad keeps a car in the UK which spends 99% of its time rotting away in the garage but it is taxed , MOT'd and it doesn't get pulled by ANPR cars/vans or other cops which probably maybe have ANPR equipment in it and it is also insured for his trips here now and again pretty much so he can get in it and drive away to do his little erands.

I keep trying to get him to sell it and rent cars instead, but he is having none of it , usually leaving the MOT & servicing to me... its seen so little use the wires and pipes everywhere appear to have suffered rot.

I was looking through the paperwork , and found his log book , and it looked off , it was the old style V5 not the V5c which is blue and 4 pages...

Erm what kind of trouble is he in for not changing it over to a V5c? , in that the DVLA knows it exists as they keep sending road tax demands now and again...

And erm what can he or rather I do (since its going to be me who is going to do it) to get it to a V5c?......

Case of send in a V62 with the £25 and claim that it has been 'lost' ?.

I recall seeing adverts a very very long time ago where the DVLA ran a series of adverts where cars vanished as people were driving them. I forget anything about the penalties though.

Any thoughts

Thanks

Fail to ascertain that he is any trouble at all, all they tried to do was align our own system with some bullshit Euro directive. Fuck them.

Given that the V5 doesn't prove legal ownership of the car, simply a registered keeper, its all a bit of a waste of time. My van hasn't got a V5 at all, im in the long winded process of applying for one, the DVLA want money, they arent getting it, and so it goes on.

Just carry on as you are, if its taxed and MOT'd there is no issue.

Hi

The DVLA should have sent the V5C, probably when it was taxed. Several of the bikes I have that haven't been on the road for a while still have old V5s.

If you have never had a V5C then it should be free. If you have (which seems likely as it has been taxed, etc) then you will have to pay for a new one.

All the best

Keith

Yeah but this is the DVLA we are talking about ...... I filled in my V62 for the Africa twin virtually using a type writer so they could not mistake poor hand writing which I have for the wrong thing , they managed to spell my name wrong AND send it to the wrong house...

Luckily the guy who bought it didn't really care too much about that handed over a wad of cash and took the little green bit and will import it shortly afterwards.

Hi

DVLA are renowned for their incompetence. When we moved to this house they got the road name right first time on my driving licence, but took 3 attempts to get it right on Charlottes licence.

All the best

I don't think you need a new V5 by any kind of law, just like you can still have a paper driving licence, no obligation to change it for a photocard unless you have to renew it for some reason.

A few years back they changed the V5's to the current format at no cost to the registered keeper. All that happened was that they sent out the new V5 to the registered keeper and you were supposed to throw the old one away. A pound to a penny they sent out a new V5 but it has got misplaced and you still have the old one too.
