You could argue that the USSR didn't have as far to fall to rock bottom as the vrest do now.

I can't be bothered to rip that apart, but like Skudd says, the two are completely different. Essentially the USSR was in massive internal decline from the early 1960's onwards.

What does that mean?

They knew they were close to rock bottom so prepared themselves a little in advance.

They were close to rock bottom so there was a bigger chance of collapse but the rest aren't as close so it won't happen.

The bigger you are the harder you fall.

Could say the same thing about the USA , in that since the 1971 gold standard was abandoned by Nixon the ONLY thing supporting the USA is printed fiat money, even China is getting shaky about buying dollars now , when Jiang Jimin said to Clinton recently that the USD was unstable USD fell by 2 cents against plenty of other currencies.
