Just accidentally happened upon it at a local dealer yesterday in Batman black.

Oh my sex-wee god. That does sound very similar indeed to the M1. Obviously not as loud, but the long bang thing is a glorious sound.... Cool

From what I head on the MCN test ride that was on YouTube, it just sounded like a V4.

Thanks.

Moonie is right, there's a moment in that clip where it is repetitive like a washing machine. Wish he revved it's nuts off.

Anyway much better than a 2t sound anyway :p so i can't say much.

The bikes stunning just really do not like the pillion seat and rear light.

Other than that, Its a really sharp looking bike. Very nice. Sounds quite cool too.

Whats the deal with the firing order then? Is it different from previous R1s?

I think it has a totally new engine system. MCN rate it highly

Uses what they call a 'cross-plane' (sp?) crank. I think that the con-rod's are set at 90 degree angles so you get each cylinder firing individually rather than two at a time as in convential 4-cylinder bikes.

Sure Kickstart etc will be able to correct me if necessary regarding this.

I got to hear one at my local yamaha dealership when I took the R6 in for its service, sounds amazing Twisted Evil

Apparently the order books are filling up quickly already and there is likley to be a waiting list Shocked

Beacause of this the R1 is going to be taken off the 0% interest deal yamaha are currently running.

Was funny to see the 09 at 10k sat next to a brand new 08 which was 7799 on the road.

The manager who I know also said he was at the press launch in Japan when someone asked the project director in the Q&A section if the R6 was going to get the same engine next year to which the director said "he couldnt say as it was top secret", But the engine guy behind him was already nodding Laughing

90 degree crank rather than 180, means it fires all cylinders seperatley, instead of in 2s

Sounds pretty sweet, gets rid of that irritating buzz sound of a normal IL4 on idle I think.

Reuben's bang on, each cylinder fires separately as opposed to the usual two cylinde rountine that's so common.

I'm gagging for a ride on one, might see if I can wangle a test ride in Dubai over Easter Thinking

Edit: Dear god, just found this vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=colD-VBttlI&feature=related . I want one.

I'm possibly wrong here, but the old system didn't fire two at the same time, they may have been at the same position but one is on it's comression stroke and one is on it's exhaust.

Also, Yams new cross plane crank allows for each cylinder to fire for longer, and individually i thing, reducing inertial torque and making the power more controllable.

That's what I thought - 2 cylinders firing at the same time would be a "big bang" arrangement, shirley?

Yes and it would sound like a flat 4 as 2 cylinders chucked out the gas at the same time.

complicated business this internal combustion lark!
